Occasionally, I click on the distance and the marker instantly disappears and I stop. So, I use auto-follow pretty frequently in this instance in order to not fall way behind the rest of the group.

The merchant box doesn't pop up for the Mielikki priestess in Silverymoon if you're a worshiper of an allied deity. I'm not sure if this is by design (ie no items are for sale) or not.
