Custom content at Character Creation!

We've been waiting for it for a very long time. (Since the early NWN1 days, I believe).

Now, it's here with the 1.23 Beta patch for NWN2/MotB/SoZ. I will be participating in the semi-open Beta testing phase to help Obsidian get the bugs worked out before 1.23 goes public. The major change is that haks will be loaded when first connecting to a module, allowing that content to be available during character creation. Some possibilities with this:

1. Custom 3.5E skillset, available from character creation (mostly implemented)
2. Altered/expanded coloration for hair/skin/etc in character creation
3. Additional head and hair models in character creation
4. Alteration of available feats and spells at character creation
5. Removal of disallowed feats from the selection lists
6. Alterations to allowable dieties by class/alignment/race
7. Proper (ALFA-specific) descriptions of skills/feats/spells which have been changed
8. Altered/additional/removed Base Classes
9. Altered/additional/removed Races/Subraces.

Probably quite a bit more as well. I'm interested in which of the above are top priorities among our playerbase for implementation. This potentially opens many new possibilities, but will also represent a lot of work to get going smoothly. All of the above have, for the most part, represented areas which we set aside for "later" due to the lack of hak preloading.

I'll also be looking for a range of volunteers to help with the testing/fixing/bug reporting.

I dont suppose that it might be possible to load font sets with these changes would it ... or maybe it could be mentioned to some one? ... i know a big hurdle to getting books widely adopted is that it currently means over writting the standard fontfamily.xml and add files to the font folder ...

Having the abilty to add custom fonts to the game with out having to constantly change the fontfamily.xml file woudl be a big improvement for GUIs...

Finally.

This will be a lot of work up front, but worth it in the long run. We will need to identify changes for the Standards Team to discuss. Either updating old decisions, or simply looking them up for implementation. I'm not sure how many new things will need to be considered.

Great news.

I can't wait to see the various knowledge and performance skills implemented myself 8).

I think the order in which the various things are numbered in the first post seems a good order to do them in. Skills are top priority, anyway. Also, custom feats. :P

AL, if you're interested in what ALFA as a whole is most interested in, how about a multi-choice poll?

If the custom feats will be made available at creation, will that mean we can find a way to implement the real weapon proficiency rules?

Exciting stuff AL.

As you know I've been very interested in getting the full range of 3.5 skills in game for awhile so I'd be happy to help with testing. (give me a week until this last paper is out of the way ;) )
