thanks to the webchat i know they have fiendish heritage...but i'm still confused
That's demonic or devilish? are both possible? what sort of devils or demons produce tieflings? I wonder because would it mean that a Tannaruk an half-ork tiefling sort of? why would a draegloth be bred if a glabrezu mate with a drow...shouldn't it be a "half-drow" tiefling?
Also, geographically...where do tiefling sprout and actually live? With their appearances i'd assume alot of cultures would not tolerate such blatant curse on a child (or tribe).
Do they live as a people somewhere or are just random occurences?
Thanks

Tieflings aren't half. Tieflings are descendants of fiends, generations removed from the initial half ancestor.

that would relegate tieflings survivors to...basically a select few tribes and people that would accept to breed with such stock. That would imply tieflings are extremely rare. Or is there some love for horns in the forgotten realm that i don't know of?

They are rare. Hence the reason they are not allowed as a player race at this time.

Not really a proper race, basically it means that somewhere back in their ancestry their was a ancestor with lower planar heritage. Basically the traits can pop up anytime in the family tree, would not be that rare for tieflings to be born from normal human parents who had no idea that great, great, great, grandma had a one night stand with an imp.
They are never common but would most often be found in regions with a high degree of lower planar interaction such as Thay, Narfell, or the environs around the former Hellgate Keep.
Edit: This is true of Aasimar as well and in places such as Muhlorand or Unther the ancestor may be very well be a deity.

Definitly a down the line genetic thing for tieflings and aasimars.
there powers compaired to half somthings, like say half-celestials and half-fiends is like compairing a gale to a hurricain. So likly there ancestor was a half-somthing and there the bloodline decendants.
Or is there some love for horns in the forgotten realm that i don't know of?
Have you BEEN to the forgotten realms recently? more kinky mages than you can shake a stick at.
While Half-anything tends to be horribly overpowered, (dear god half-dragon monks

) and very rare. Tieflings and Aasimars in certain regions are easyer to find. Not to say theres nations of them, just alot more than 3 or 4.

Is the lineage more direct for sorcerors then?

Lineage isn't even a given for sorcerors, but it would be approximately the same.

Hmm I was thinking that it was draconic in nature.
Maybe I need more coffee.

It is, some of the time. The notion that it's always draconic is fairly prevalent though.

ok only one thing to kick:
are they from devilish or demonic originin or can be from both?
And btw from what i caught in the chat they were going to be allowed for alfa2...or is that still in discussion (as most is anyway)

"descended from evil creatures of the outer planes — demons, devils, evil deities and other evil creatures"

I'd point out that they're most likely to be descended from Erinyes, Succubi, or Incubi. After all, those are your devils/demons associated with seduction and rape, but yeah, like spider said, "Tiefling" = "trace of blood from outsider with evil descriptor"

That kinda make a tiefling sorceror a nogo eh? Not that anyone would want to play such a weak combo though... Though I have heard of a certain Half-orc bard....
