A Land Far Away

Anyone know anything more then what the player documents have. So is it okay for them to worship different gods? Would they use necromancy? Etc Etc etc?

My understanding is necromancy is unnatural and Monks of the Long Death don't like undeath they just like to study natural death by killing and torturing and asking questions like how does it feel to die.

The order isn't really religious in nature, given the fact that they managed to forget exactly what God they may or may not be following. So a monk might have any patron Deity at all.
As for necromancy: SN is right about them studying natural death, but I don't see how that precludes the use of necromantic magic. Speaking with the dead seems a good way to learn about how it feels to die, and anyone you raise can be killed again. And again. And again...

I think you may be thinking of the Old Order where you say this.

The Monks of the Long Death have sometimes served deities of death (Jergal then Myrkul, then Cyric, then briefly Kelemvor). They are less of a devout organization these days thanks to Kelemvor being less than nasty.

Today they still may have ties to the church of Cyric or Kelemvor. Velsharoon's clergy has also made friendly gestures toward the order.

Because of their long history of serving deities of death, many who often employ(ed) undead, I wouldn't say it's unlikely to run into undead guardians in their monasteries.

I don't believe you're correct here. When it says the monks are obsessed with killing and death by natural means, it refers to using their fists and feet.

Lord of Darkness is possibly the best source on the order, though their entry is a short one.

The FRCS says on p. 25:

The Long Death order worships the principle of death without caring much wihch diety currently owns the portfolio. They are more than willing to share death and its antecedent, pain, with others. Clerics of the previous god of death, Myrkul, chose to view them as part of their god's long-range plan. Kelemvor (the current god of the dead) veiws them as enemies, but is at least pleased that they do not actively promote undeath. Velsharoon (the god of necromancy) wants to woo them, but has not figured out how. Monks of the Long Death may multiclass freely as fighters, assassins, and blackguards. This order is quite strong in Thay, though not with the sanction or cooperation of the Red Wizards.

So definitely Cyric, Myrkul, maybe Velsharoon, but not Kelemvor. Velsharoon might be a good possibility for use foo necromancy.

So would memebers be monks as a base class and then later on multiclass? Would the abhor the use of weapons against humanoids?

You can find more about the Order of the Long Death in the new Unclean novel by Richard Lee Byers. A character in the book is a member of the Order, but also works for someone important in Thay. From what I gathered reading the book the Order doesnt like Undead much at all and prefer nature ending of life.

the Order of Long Death despises undead, and finds them hideous abominations.

they study death, and how things die, something that is already dead they have no interest in.

they give death with their bare hands hoping to better understand it.

they work on this in order to learn how to attain a "perfect death" (that is, if any ever hit level 20, they die when they get the "perfect soul" ability)
