White Warlock's Availability - Sessions

Post by White Warlock »

Hi all. I've been practicing with the dm client, so if i turn anyone into a newt, it was intentional. {evil grin}

I intend on making myself available at 3am GMT (10pm EST), or earlier, just about every day, including the weekends. Whoever shows up I'll try to help bring you into whatever is going on. I'll be winging it so it's all your call what happens.

Also, if anyone catchs me in alfa chat, and wants to play, just pull me out of the cesspool and i'll login if i'm not busy.

My DMing rules:
  • 1. If you want me to DM you, ask or i'll turn you into a newt.
    2. I'm here to have fun too. If you complain or argue with me while a session is in progress, oyou will be newtered.
    3. If you are having a technical problem, tell me that upfront, or caudata will be your new race.
    4. If you have time restraints and you're a pivotal character in an event, tell me at the onset of the session, or salamandridae will be your new family.
    5. While i am ingame, too much OOC non-TSM chatting (with me or each other), will incur an increase in the newt population.
    6. I'm not perfect. If you assume i am perfect, you may end up with the last name of Gingrich.
As i am acclimating here, after (not during) a session, via forum pms or chat pms i would like critiques (not criticism) on what worked for you and what undermined your enjoyment of the session. I can't get too much better at this without your input.

Thanks for reading, see you ingame.
Roy

/me smacks the Kest

And apologies to many who had hoped to see me ingame the past few days. As many know, I'm babysitting surgeries and sometimes the pain overrides the fun of being cut up. Cast broke when i fell, so pain has been a bit heavy. Nonetheless, i mostly recovered and will be getting recast tomorrow. Should be well enough to DM or assist in DMing a few sessions today and tonight, assuming i can get the hak updates squared away.

edit: no luck on dming. haks are giving me a bother.

Good luck with the re-casting. Remember, percocet is your friend... for now. ;)

Just, for gods sake and all of ours, don't DM while on Percocet.

lol, too late. I somehow had 'every' creature/npc in Rivermoot north go chasing down two 1st level pcs. Oh, and when i say 'every,' i mean 'every'. lol

oops

And Misha, it was fun tag-teaming with you last night.

Okay, before i forget - i need to see Twin Axes, MorbidKate, Vendrin, and Kest on the server sometime in the next few days. I owe each of you some xp and fat l3wt for our 4 hour session two days ago.

Kest and Vendrin, thanks for the input/critique on my DMing that night. Helped me to iron out some of my presentation flaws.

Everyone, let's keep that input coming. Thanks

I think it is important to bring this up.

I noticed in a few of my DMing sessions, a general fear from players (or maybe it's just their PCs). People joining the session, and shortly thereafter something gets them nervous, uncomfortable, or scared, and they leave the session.

Look, i am not requiring anyone to stay in a session, but i do need to let everyone know that my goal as a dm is to provide entertainment, not to kill PCs. I will do my utmost to focus on DMing, as i have done for the past 30 years. I am not a killer DM, never was. If a challenge is brought forward that looks imposing, think... act, do what your PC is capable of doing (via stats), and i will ensure you that tanking through a problem is not the only option. If you wish to climb, jump, urinate on a flower pot, by all means give me a tell and i'll make it happen... as best as the DM client will allow.

What i'm saying is, if you are in a DMed session, don't limit yourself to the restrictions of the medium. Do what you 'want to do' by speaking to the DM. Want to climb to the top of a roof, i'll see what i can do. Want to light a lady's britches on fire, that's fine too. It's a matter of looking at the game world not as another MMORPG, but as a real, living world. Step away from the keyboard and think... what is it you really want to do? And once you've thought, do it. PM the DM and he or she will see what they can do to make it happen, within reasonable bounds (no sexing of kittens, sorry).

And please, don't fear my DMing. I'm in it for the fun, and it's not fun to kill PCs. I would rather that players kill PCs, or stupidity kill PCs, but i'm not going to drop a CR23 creature in your lap at first level, or even second. Maybe at 3rd... :)

Summary

* Do not fear my DMing. If your PC dies because of a judgment in error on my part, then your PC didn't die (knocked out maybe).

* I don't drop bombs on PCs.

* Occasionally you may walk into an ambush, but events will usually happen with sufficient time for you to think and roleplay.

* Think outside the box. In a DMed session, your only limitation is yourself. Step away from the keyboard and think. A DM can provide avenues for you to do anything, but you have to talk to him/her.

* If you wish to participate in a session, and you see me logged in, then PM me (shoot me a tell) and i will endeavor to include you in whatever is going on. Either as a participant, or as an antagonist. If you don't PM me, and you're bored... it's your own fault.

* Critique my DMing, preferably in private (email, forum), and outside of TSM (don't want input on my dming while i'm dming).

* Relax, have fun... it's only a game.

"The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully." -- Richard Dawkins
