A cacophony of sound can be heard in the air near the Shining Scroll. The proprietoress, Xara, holds her head a moment, and as at least thirty instruments, half of which are untuned, blare out into the morning. She slowly begins to grind the herbal concoction she purchased in the market that prevents the pain that is surely to come. Luckily, the students at the Heartsong Harps only gather together infrequently, and play out of doors even more infrequently. Xara sighs, and is at least greatful for the row of houses that separates her establishment from that of "Lucky" Lucian Heartsong.


Over at Heartsong Harps, it is business as usual. Lucian had just finalized a sale with a traveling minstrel show for a new harp and the restringing and sealing of all the musicians instruments hours before, and now instructed his myriad of students in the back court near the wall. It was too early to tell, but he thought Meriom, at only age seven, might just be a prodigy. Her work stood out from the rest, most certainly. Of coarse, it did not hurt that her father was a great benefactor to the arts, either....

It was always a paradox, leaving the Focluchan and heading down the road toward Uldon's. The smells wafted through the air and drowned out the smell of dead fish from the river...and his mouth began to water. There was nothing better than some of Aumadors pepper suasage first thing in the morning, except perhaps his garlic and duck sausage. Yes a paradox...Thomas opened the door and stepped into the musky room. He never understood why Uldon had arranged his shop the way he had....all of the butchering on the bottom floor in front of the customer, and all of the cooking done by his wife on the next floor. People had been telling Aumador Uldon for years that he needed to swap floors, but Aumador always smiled at the suggestion, and said "Your here now, aren't you?" Indeed, the sausages were beyond comparison, and the jerky was the best Thomas had ever had....still, the blood on the floor behind the counter did nothing to improve his appetite for sure.

Many merchants envied Helen Mornbright. She had inherited from her own father the house which she would later convert into her tailoring and dying business. No business was lost to her, being just down the slope from the College, she had wisdom enough to carry all the latest trends for the young and fashionable sons and daughters of Lords and Dutchesses. It was uncommon for a day to go by without one of the students at the school coming in, browsing, and eventually buying. Add on top of that the fact that her store was probably the first thing most saw as they stepped off the bridge....Helen did not lack for customers. In fact, she had been using the upstairs as a living quarters, but as more and more customers of noble lineage began to come into her store, Helen converted the upstairs as a high blood portion of the shop, so that one would not have to rub elbows with the dockworker looking for a new pair of gloves. Even so, Helen is known to have a good raport with low and high class alike, and everyone who visits her shop leaves with a smile on their face, wether they bought something or no.
