Terrible trouble logging in

Hey all. Returning from an extended hiatus I was looking forward to getting back in ALFA. After downloading all the haks, thinking up a good character, and speaking with ingame friends about how to get started, I finally tried to log in today. However, I am not able to.

At first, my client couldn't even find the ALFA server, despite the password and IP being correct. After a while, it finally hit home, and I created my character. After spending a long time with character creation, I pressed "start game" and thought 'finally'. However, I was instantly booted.

After a conversation with a friend, he claimed that the server had crashed, and everyone had been booted. He said that he was back online and that I should try again.

I log back in, select my character from the server vault, and get instantly booted as soon as I press "start game".

I try again and again, to no avail.

I decide that my character obviously had been corrupt as the server went down just as I finished him, so I create a new one. As soon as I press "start game" I'm booted again.

I'm at a loss to how I should proceed here. My internet is fine and I've turned off my firewall.

Run worldgate again ...might be missing a bit of something.

If that fails manually d/l the pwc ....it is frequently corrupted for me.

any overrides in place? could be causing trouble with character creation.

I'm sort of a noob when it comes to NWN2, so I don't know what a pwc is, or how to manually d/l it. Could you tell me?

AL said it might be a problem with CD-KEYS. did you reinstall, lately, with a different CD-KEY?

Do a test to confirm your computer can handle the software.

The CDKey you were using to log in today is not the same CDKey you had used in the past to log into ALFA NWN2 Live servers, causing the server to boot you off. There are a number of essential uses for the CD Key information in the inner working of our scripted systems. It is possible to convert your account to work with a new CD Key if you've lost the old one and had to buy a new copy or something; but it's not easy. If you own more than one copy of the game/CDKey, try logging on using your prior one.

If you are starting a new character and don't want to return to the PC in your vault, you may create a new Gamespy ID and log in using that, then PM the Player Admin (Demson) with your old and new information.

If you haven't already, I recommend filling out the public CD Key info in your Member Info section of the website as well, with whichever CD Key you intend to use for ALFA (and continue to use it consistently therafter).

[edit: bad PWC can cause "Missing hak or required file" errors, "Error Loading Module" errors, and crashes- but should never yield a "Booted" message.]

I have never logged in to ALFA live servers prior to yesterday, unless you count NWN1.

I'm going to take a look at what CD key I'm using when I get home from work today. I believe I'm using the one from the expansion pack, as that's the latest I put in to the game.

It happend to me a few times when i first started, i just kept on trying, till it gave up on booting me, havnt had a problem since.

The server has, as of this morning, registered you as trying to log on with 3 different CD Keys. I can do a more detailed examination of which key when tonight if necessary. There is an outside possibility that a scripting bug is catching the wrong CDKey when 2 people log on at about the same time, if so I should be able to track things down from that angle.

When the game is installed, it takes both CD Keys, the NWN2 one, and the MotB one. Occasionally on a reinstall, the order of the two keys ends up reversed in nwncdkey.ini, causing this sort of problem/confusion. This still wouldn't explain the third entry though.

And it doesn't explain all the characters in my server vault, does it? As far as I remembered, the server vault lists only characters I have used to play online, correct? Well, I haven't played NWN 2 online at all untill I tried to yesterday, so I'm kind of wondering who made all those characters.

Well I am in part responsible. Yesterday when fredda was trying to log in again and again without any luck I was trying to help him. Here is what happend. I was online playing with other people as fredda was creating his PC. Then suddenly we all get Booted from the server, efter about 4-5 mins I log on and all is fine as people start to log on again. But fredda cant get in. I believed something had gone wrong when ge got boted in the process of buildning his PC, so I told him to make a new one, but when that one didnt work eather I thought I'd try to log in with his acount and perhaps force the pc to log in and then log out saving the pc proper. But I got boted as well. This is probably why you se at least one other cd key.
When I tryed to log in I noticed that there were other PC names in his vault that he did not create.

Uhm... yes, one was called Ghostface, but I ain't Joos. He's a RL mate, though.

Wait! Now I get what you're saying. Joos has the GSID you're talking about, due to us changing accounts for some reason I can't remember back before either of us started playing ALFA.

Am I logging in using his account? Kind of strange in that case.
