Hello Alfa!

Post by Racerblue »

After a tumultuous year for my family and myself, I finally found some personal time to learn how to make placeables for NWN2. I'm about to release a collection of Ruins placeables and would like to make myself available to ALFA as a builder/custom content creator.

I have to use gmax for all the modeling, and so I'll be limited to creating buildings etc...no animation.

I'm fairly handy with the toolset and enjoy building outdoor areas....so if anyone needs a slow, but steady hand in building, I'll do my best.

Welcome back, Racerblue. That's a very useful offer. I know I've wished for placeables as I've built. So far I've built around them, but as I build on I know I'll come up with more.
Enjoy the game

Hi Racerblue. Welcome back.

I've a request if you're interested. Do you think you could recreate some of the buildings that we had in NWN1 or just add more variety to the current buildings palette? Building monotony is something of a sore point with me.

Thanks.

Pardon my ignorance, but is this an offer we could take advantage of to get /items/ that look different from the bag icon?
Enjoy the game

To make this work in a straightforward fashion, would require some Obsidian patching, as I understand it. It's not the lack of models that's holding it back per se- models appropriate for this are available on the Vault.

With regard to variety in buildings- if you pursue this route, I would recommend first getting set up with the current haks and blueprints for all the ones we've added (BTH houses, City Hak/Oblivion houses, and others) to get an idea of what is already available.

Let me know what you need/want.

Post by Racerblue »

I can approach it from several different angles I suppose. If you have something in particular you want, provide me with a picture or link to one, and I'll do my best.

If you just want general buildings etc, then I'll just make em up using the textures I have.

Do you guys have any limits you are trying to stay under as far as hak size is concerned?

Do you want to assign me a block of .2da lines to stay inside for my placeables?

Also, I'd like to make a few outdoor areas(just for something different) from time to time...do you need anything in that realm?

Hi RB. Very nice to have you on the boards again.

For those that haven't seen it, this is something RB is working on, partially released to the vault recently:

Really tremendous stuff, RB.

As for buiding exteriors, I'm sure there's plenty of scope there, from the Moonsea, Waterdeep, Silver Marches and as of today, Baldur's Gate.

Awesome. welcome back Racer..

RUINS! YAY! I have some of the biggest areas of ruins on my mod of any of the modules that are being built (Zhentil Keep ruins will be about 4-5 exteriors, Phlans got most of an exterior ruined, not to mention the 15 canonical ruined exteriors I'll have all over the Moonsea after live) and I was really struggling to keep them different..

This is awesome.

Oh if you want to build on Moonsea there is plenty of room in the builders staff room and there will be coffee and scones..
...and I have Whitehorn in my server region but no immediate plans to build it until waaaay after live.

Quite stunning. I think we're in good hands for modeling placeables. :)

Ruins of all types are sorely needed.

Thank you guys.

These ruins placeables are nearly done..at least the initial batch I had planned. Most have a medieval feel to them, though a few are different.

I'll post up some screen shots tomorrow for you guys.

I'll work on some simple building types to begin with, and work up from there. I'm assuming you need more of the city type building and not rural?

I'll grab the hak pak and get the .2da for the placeables...can someone give me some guidance on what numbers to begin with on the .2da?

The alfa_2da.hak will have a text file prefixed with "__" which has the row ranges of the current content. You'll notice some big gaps in there, especially since we started maintaining the rows of some of the more recent CC- I'd recommend finding a nice wide open space of padding and claiming some territory for yourself- just let us know where you plan to fill in, so we don't add anything to the haks that conflicts with those rows.

[edit: technically it's the _alfa_placeables_2da_1.4.txt that you want to refer to for this information, 3500-3999 are one good range, another might be 7200-7499, etc]

I require the following ruin types -:
* City/Metropolis (Most urgent: Zhentil Keep has 4-5 areas of city ruins, Hillsfar has some big ruined chunks now)
* Medieval township (Next most urgent: I have several towns that are mainly just ruins : Hulburg, Sulasspryn, Yulash and big chunks of Phlan)
* Shipwrecks (I have tonnes of these)
* Ancient (I have a couple of these around the place too)
* Elven (I have tonnes of these)
* Rural (as in from a sacked hamlet.. non-urgent)

heh.. well you asked the question :)
