Warlock invocations

Post by maralten »

Hi. I searched the forums for "warlock", "invocations" and "flee the scene" and such, but found no useful threads. I meant to look for a list of how warlock invocations work in this server. Does FTS haste the entire party? Does hasting age people a year every time it's cast on them (granted, this happened on AD&D, not D&D3.5 I think)? Should I keep anything in mind about broken invocations when playing a Warlock (e.g. do not spam area effect invocations because you'll lag the server, etc)

Not that I have a Warlock, mind you, fellow players, just thinking about it.

By the way, you guys weren't kidding about that "good luck with your second character" bit.

The warlock is currently almost unaltered from its NWN2 state. Their skills and skill-boosts have been made to comply with Pen & Paper D&D, but that's about it. So if you're curious about the inner workings of the Invocations, check out the nwn2 wiki: nwn2.wikia.com.

We have out eye on Flee the Scene and Leaps and Bounds though, so those might get nerfed in the future.

Yes, for now.
No.
You only need to worry about the ones that are broken in the normal game too, like Devil's Sight.

One thing to note is that several "arcanist" PCs have had dire views of warlocks in the past, so there's potential in-character tension there.

No, we weren't. Combining slow leveling with permadeath means that there's a definite lethality to the servers that takes some getting used to. Players who are (too) keen to play their favourite type of character may easily find themselves recreating essentially the same PC over and over again. Which gets old for them, and old for the rest of us too. And thus, ALFA's traditional greeting was born.

Welcome to ALFA. Good luck with your second character. :alright:

Thanks for the answers.
While I do agree with keeping an eye on Flee the Scene as it might end up being overpowered in certain circumstances, my humble suggestion is that you leave Leaps and Bounds as is, since it's basically the only thing that makes the warlock survive the early levels, moreso on this server. You could remove the Tumble bonus, but take away the Dexterity, and they'll be an even crappier class than they already are (though they are quite fun to play sometimes).

Also, did you guys fix the SR issue the Warlock has? It gimps the class a lot when going against, say, constructs, or clerics, or the underdark races.

And yes, I'm quite aware of the possible rivalries warlocks might entice, but like I said to my fellow players, I'm just analyzing the concept of playing one, leave your metagaming boots at home (I know all you guys are stand-up roleplayers, just saying, just in case).

If ALFA were to introduce dozens and dozens of scripted triggers which reacted in major ways to jump and balance skills (including terrifying fall damage for failure), PnP-ifying Leaps and Bounds might make sense.

Highs and lows on the z-axis in NWN2 aren't dangerous in and of themselves, you won't fall off a cliff or into an ocean or anything generally, they're just terrain obstacles or great places to snipe from. Balancing on a narrow ledge though or jumping from a collapsing balcony though... just ain't going to happen unless it's the DM asking for rolls while everyone stands still during her narrative of what peril they're being asked to overcome via skill rolls. Non-factor in static, DMless play.
ALFA NWN2 PCs: Rhaggot of the Bruised-Eye, and Bamshogbo
ALFA NWN1 PC: Jacobim Foxmantle
ALFA NWN1 Dead PC: Jon Shieldjack

Nope, but I doubt anyone would be opposed to implementing a fix.

If you can do the legwork and propose a ready made quick fix, then it might get added right away. Or it might not. We're rather dependant on the Technical Administrator's time, abilities and priorities, so make his work easy and you may get things your way.
Or not.
