Hello, everyone. New to this community, though I've heard nothing but good things about ALFA in NWN1. LunarMynx and oldgrayrogue recommended this place to me to play for NWN2, so I thought I'd check it out. I've been looking for a really good PW-Roleplay mod that's set in the Forgotten Realms, so I hope this one is a keeper. Currently, I play on a NWN2 server called DragonCoast, but unfortunately, it's not set in the Forgotten Realms, which is what I'm really looking for. I am hoping this server becomes as popular as DC and just as fun and I will most likely make the transition over to ALFA permanently if that's the case.

Just a few questions:

1. I've been seeing old threads about the server currently being in beta. Is that still the case?

2. Is the server going to be passworded? If so, will you need to submit a character bio in order to gain access to the server?

3. Is there going to be permadeath in the server?

4. What's the overall ratio for this server? is it 50% RP/ 50% hack and slash? 80% RP / 20% hack and slash? I'm just trying to get a general idea of things and whether or not this place would see a lot of powergamers and such due to the ratio. Also, is this still a low-magic server like in NWN1?

Hello and welcome Dragoness! Glad to see a referral come to check us out. I will try to answer what I can of your questions and if I screw up or miss something I am sure someone will jump in.

1. The Silver Marches server 003 is in beta set for a live date of April this year.- THe Open Application Server - OAS for Alfa2 will also go live at that time (we wanted an actual server to send accepted players to) There are several other servers being built at this time set to go live later in the year.

2. We are a passworded community and take applications for membership either via live interaction on the NWN1 OAS (or the OAS2 in April) or from the main webpage application. www.alandfaraway.org

3. Our servers are Permadeath. Whereas raises in the FR are a rare and costly thing we try to abide by.

4. If you see powergamers IG then either our written application process or live application was fooled by an individual who took alot of effort to do so. Our DM staff constantly monitors wealth standards, as well as RP so as to ensure such an instance does not continue.
We are a hardcore RP environment with low-magic servers.

Hope this helps, and I am hoping you choose to apply! ( be sure to reference those old goats on your app if you do)

What's this? I neglected to wish someone good luck on their second character?

Hello, welcome. And... good luck with your second character.

*coughs* second character? Well thanks for the encouragement >.>
I was never a fan of the permadeath thing, since I like to get involved with my characters as much as I can, but I will give this place a shot since it's been talked about for a while and got good reviews.

I played at HAZE for a while, which was another hardcore server with permadeath, and found myself confined in the town all the time (it got tedious at times) because I put so much time and effort in fully-fleshing out my character and not want to end up permanently losing her to a random monster. I think if it hadn't been for the +10 xp you get ever 30 minutes, I probably would have been permanently stuck at level 1. But don't get me wrong, I'm more for RP than levelling up, but it's also nice to advance one's character sometimes when there's no one around to RP with/nothing else to do. But playing on permadeath servers really keeps me from doing that, and I'll probably end up standing around looking for something to do rather than just XP-hunt like many tend to do since I really don't want all my hard work to go to waste.

I've been looking for a great NWN 2 server to join and call home, but I guess I'm just picky at what I like. :P

Now, if ALFA has a lot of DM involvement and events that grant XP rewards and allows for much character involvement, then I would much rather do that than hack-and-slash my way to levelling.

EDIT: Also, I forgot, where do you go to find the password/pwc for the server??

Being an old Hazer like myself, you're very aware of how much death sucks. But many players aren't. They start out with their favourite character concept, completely worked out... and get killed by the first Goblin they see.

The traditional welcome "good luck with your second character" is ment to remind people of that, and also urge them to roll up a simple, straightforward PC just to get the hang of things. You can start with the PC you want to retire at level 20, but the odds are stacked against that happening.

But again, you played Haze. You know all these things. And stayed in Coffinswode, while never giving Jasper the Wolf lip. ;)
