Newly accepted player here, looking forward to great RP's with you all! I plan on playing on the NWN2 side, mostly.

A little about me:
I've been playing D&D since the early 80's, when my cousin brought home the red box and led his brother and I on our first quest, to fight Bargle the Infamous and avenge the honor of Aleena the cleric. It quickly grew into a passion amongst the three of us and a few friends, we bought up all the box sets and AD&D core rulebooks, and rolled our ways through adventure after adventure in my cousin's homebrew campaign world. RPGs and other geeky pastimes have been a way of life for me ever since. Fast forward to 2004, I had a copy of NWN that was gathering dust and on a whim I looked online to see if there was any fun to be had. I stumbled upon Avlis (I'm sure many of you have heard of it) and spent the last few years RPing a goodly aged wizard of the Elminster/Gandalf/Merlin/Fizban/Dumbledore archetype, founded a mage order, saved the world a couple times, etc. etc. NWN2 came around, and I was for a time involved in design and DMing on the Avlis 2 project, but got burnt out. So I was kind of looking for a fresh start with a fresh community that has a reputation for quality RP, and... here I am!

I still consider myself a relative newbie when it comes to FR stuff. My only real exposure to the campaign setting is through the Baldur's Gate and NWN series, and a few books about some black-skinned elf and his friends I read way back in grade school. So I'll have a lot of lore-osmosis to do, please bear with me as I catch up on the incredibly vast world that is the Realms via ALFA.

Out of character I'm a software tester by trade, a bleeding heart liberal, and (I'd like to think) a pretty laid back and likeable guy. I live near Iowa City, Iowa (home of the Hawkeyes) and wish I had more free time for fun stuff like this. In character I tend to play casters and good guys, and generally enjoy ridiculous in-character discussions about fake philosophy and make-believe magic.

See you around! :D

maybe, just maybe, I'll make it a ways with my first character...

Welcome and hope you have fun.

Re: any questions you have about the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting (which happens to be the name of the main book which describes it, ie, FRCS), you may be able to easily find PDFs of it online if you look in shady places, like google. Big lore crash course to be had in there, though without the 500 little bits and pieces that come out in novels. Still, not a bad read, especially to get familiar with regions ALFA covers, or regions various PCs claim might be their homelands.

Cheers!

In that case: good luck with your first character, and welcome to ALFA!

Come to think, my first character made it about eleven months, then met a beholder. Better than dying of a papercut I guess! So yeah, good luck with the first.

Yeah, I met that beholder a few rounds before BB, and even though my toon was a just few months shorter lived, survived the encounter about 3 times as long as BB's did. Granted, mine had already pissed it off by drawing first blood without getting bitten and it had switched to it's viscious magic eye attacks, so by the time BB's toon got in range mine succumbed to the third eye's disintegration ray, and he got hit with a few more right off the bat. Pardon the pun, but it was a blast. Best death I ever had on any server. I sure miss Rodney and Jon.

Seriously, though, I do bid you all welcome, and good luck keeping numero uno alive. Remember to avoid soloing, even what you would normally expect to be "simple static quests", but, rather, find some folks to join you and RP to your heart's content, and you'll most likely live a lot longer.
