Computer reboots on game launch

Post by oldgrayrogue »

Help! Been playing NWN2 with the same DVD, same computer for over a year without any issues. Two days ago my computer starts rebooting during game launch. Sometimes it happens, other times it doesn't. Anyone know what might be causing this? A fix?

Hm. That could be a lot of things, none of them easily diagnosed or fixed. We'll skip the "update your drivers, OS and virus scanner". You did that already, right?

Does it make a difference if the computer has been running a while, vs. a clean boot before starting the game?

I actually did not update my drivers etc. I did run disk check to check for errors on the hard drive. There were also serveral "mini memory dump" files created at each crash. I saw a quick blue screen that said "memory dump" so i checked those. Not sure what significance if any that has. Its weird because its an intermittent problem -- has happened on both a clean boot and and after the computer has been running a while. I'll update my drivers etc and report back. Thanks for the reply.

Those "core dumps" are safely ignored or even deleted, I doubt anyone has any use for the info therein.

Actually I've found them extremely useful to locate the source of these kinds of errors (drivers, overheating, etc) If you get the blue screen error code shown, that's about 1/2 of what's needed to find out what the actual problem is.

Most likely it's an issue with graphics drivers. Is there any other game/program you can run which heavily uses your graphics card?
People talk of bestial cruelty, but that's a great injustice and insult to the beasts; a beast can never be so cruel as man, so artistically cruel.
