Admin Playing?

Post by Wynna »

http://www.alandfaraway.org/phpbbforum/ ... highlight=

I welcome thoughts from the playerbase. There is nothing in the Charter about Admin not being able to play, and I would like to formalize the policy one way or another.

I believe there are three options:

Option #1: DM rules for playing apply to Admin playing:

1) Must Admin 80% of their ALFA time and not neglect Admin duties.
2) A new GS ID is recommended to avoid perception of favoritism.

Option #2:
Additional more stringent rule for Admin players:

One in-game strike may be cause for immediate recall proceedings.

Option #3:

No, Admin may not play.

Thank you.

Do a poll! :P

I think option 1 is pretty cool.

I think it would be healthy for Admin to play. All DM's and admin should at some point play, if they want to. You can't fully understand the big picture if you ain't experienced it all first hand.

IMO what is the point of putting all that work into the PW when if you want to play you arn't allowed to?

We need more people IG playing anyhow so why stop the people who keep this thing running from being in there.

I'll poll after we discuss for a bit. DMs are discussing in a separate forum, too, btw, but welcome to weigh in here, too.

Would help the "Admin burnout", question is would it be for the good of ALFA while they were in office?

I have little reason to ever do anything important in ALFA. First, you poor people are constantly harrassed. Second, you people have to work hard so you can receive said harrassment.

If you were to add a third, and that third was that you can't enjoy what you spend your free-time working at, it literally needs to turn into a paid position, because it's no longer A GAME. If we're here to employ managers, then let's employ them - last I checked, it was voluntary.

Let admins play, unrestricted. Don't require them to get DM permission to play, in fact if it's a big deal worrying they'll be harrassed, let them all create phony-player GSIDs. Why should anyone need permission to play? They had to apply to get into ALFA like anyone else. There's already standards and guidelines in place to ensure a DM can't give Wynna's level 1 character a +5 l33t-item of d3wm.

I'm sure some of these admins are the best roleplayers of us all, allow them to benefit our gameplay by interacting with us beyond the forums/chat.

Plus think about how fun it would be to see a level 1 Wynna walking around... I mean really... guys? :)

If any Admin has the time away from RL and Admin duties to spare a few moments to actually play, no reason they shouldnt be allowed. It should be a choice. You guys are working hard to keep this place sticky taped together, you should be able to hop in and play a PC now and then.

That and i think it would keep the players perception of the world firmly in all admins mind if they got in game and experienced what other players do.

In the DM forums I voiced my support for allowing Admin to play, so I will re-iterate my support for that here. Go Admin!

I've been saying it for a long time, it needs to happen. Admin will have a better idea of whats going on in ALFA if they can play. Option one is my favorite one.
There's a place I like to hide
A doorway that I run through in the night
Relax child, you were there
But only didn't realize and you were scared
It's a place where you will learn
To face your fears, retrace the years
And ride the whims of your mind

please play.

first off this is your project also.

second:
it will provide perspective. maybe some of the rules proliferation we've seen will be implemented by people who have actually had to use those rules.

I'll raise my hand in support of admins being allowed to play.

Long time ago I remember asking Murky about why he couldn't play, and he wasn't able to give me an answer that I found reasonable.

honestly i think it should be a rule that the admin team has to spend 20% of there time in game. if for no other reson then to keep intouch with the player base and the impact of there desitions....
