I agree with WW and Marklos on this one. I dont tolerate foul language around the females in my family no matter where i am at.
I stay away from crap like this on the net because my youngest daughter some times comes up and reads what is on the screen.
Ive said this before over the years, shouldnt have to repeat myself that i find this type of talk offensive.

No.
I'm voting no for the following reasons, in order of importance:
1. People have the right to say whatever they want, especially on the Internet. This includes every level of vulgarity and immature behavior. However, this does not mean ALFA is obligated to provide a platform for it. . IMO, #ALFA as a community has a right and an obligation to decide what is acceptable behavior on the chatroom that carries the ALFA name.
2. If the ability to say whatever you want, to whomever you want, whenever you want, without consequence is so valuable to its proponents--and it must be, as evidenced by the anger they show whenever anyone complains--then I've no doubt that those proponents will work independently of ALFA to find or host a chatroom that serves that purpose for them.
3. I hope that a single #ALFA chat will lead to more moderation of same. I don't think it's so hard to apply and evenly enforce some general principles to moderation, such as "No personal or group attacks". Moderation occurs in forums and chatrooms all over the Internet. It's not that difficult a concept.

Selfrestraint would be great, if all in ALFA could act with a respect towards all people, and i dont see this happen, and thus we need moderators...
People that have kids shouldent be afraid to have their kids see things in wording they dont want them to see. People that lost their Mother or father shouldent need to endure yokes about this. We are all difrent, with diffrent uppringing and culture, whats right for me, might not be alright for someone else. There for act in a "neutral" way...
As a ALFA comunity we share the shat together, i find it wery poor that some see them self above others and have to express themself in such a way just couse it suits them, and not in respect to others in ALFA... some ewen go to the extent of respelling words that isent accepted by filters, now this is in my eyes kid behavior, an act out of defiance...
Sure we are all here to have fun, we are each here to chill, but should some do this on other peoples expense or should we all seek that middle way ?

A few months ago the admissions team had set up a channal for all new and prospective players (was advertised on the OAS forum and sent in the rejection/acceptance emails), in order for them to have a method of avoiding the nonsense of #alfa but still getting the help they seek. This method has been very successful - we quite often got new members and applicants coming and seeking help, and the channal was maned almost right around the clock by Admission team members (and a few others, such as our DMA).
The only fault was that it lacked the advertising. I think if a similar channal was set up which was linked to through java chat on the main page then it would be a great success. Those who want to stay in #alfa can, but #alandfaraway can be a place where members (and prospective mebmers) can go and have their questions answered and seek help without been ridiculed.

Excellent idea.

It is the way the men in my family and for that matter all the men i call friends was raised to. Simple rules to live by actually.
Treat all women as ladies with respect and honor at all time. If someone violates these rules you kindly ask them to stop. 99% of the time men stop.
The other 10% stop after you have a strong "talk" with them.

Well this was the idea behind this poll but it didn't work.Rotku wrote:A few months ago the admissions team had set up a channal for all new and prospective players (was advertised on the OAS forum and sent in the rejection/acceptance emails), in order for them to have a method of avoiding the nonsense of #alfa but still getting the help they seek. Therefore, I really don't know what to do now.
I'll give you the password to the #alandfaraway channel, change the web applet so that it connects to the two channels and hope that the people who have replied "no" to this poll won't send me too many insults through PMs because I did not follow ALFA members' advices.
Oh anyway, I can delete the insults PMs quickly.

Tres bien on the executive decision.
The only thing I would encourage is to be crystal clear about the purpose of the IRC channel up front so people don't wander in there looking for a place to hang out. For instance, #alandfaraway sounds like a community channel whereas #alfa-help or #alfa-helpdesk communicate a specific purpose. There's also no reason why everyone in #alfa couldn't be on #alfa-whatever as well if they wanted to offer help to new members. Setup your IRC clients to auto join.

I think it'd be best that if #alandfaraway is to be in the hands of the various admissions people that it go ahead and be placed in the PAs domain, and the admissions people and PA can write policy for it that suits their needs.
