patching NWN2 to 1.23

Post by mishmash »

Hi, I'm just posting to ask for a little technical advice, something has me pretty stumped. I've finally had my laptop fixed, managed to download and install NWN2 and now I'm just about ready to run worldgate and get back in to Alfa. The only problem is that when I run the automatic updater, it downloads up to 99% and then gives the message that it has timed out. It does this every time. The version I have is 1201541 and my update version is 1.17. The file which the program is unsuccesfully trying to download is the 1201541 vofix. I've already downloaded these files from nwn2vault or some such site but have no idea how to install them...

If anyone has experienced the same problem as me, knows how to fix the automatic updater or knows how to install the files from the vault, I'd be grateful for your advice.

Best to all and as ever keep having fun!

No need for that any more, the game can now download the ALFA files itself.

As I recall, you dump the .ZIP file straight into the NWN2 directory and then run the updater - it looks in its own directory before checking online. Try that while I check to see if I'm not actually horribly wrong... ;)

Oh, and welcome back. Even when you aren't yet.

Put the zipped patch file in your NWN2 install directory (typically C:/Program Files/Atari/Neverwinter2), unplug your Internet connection and run Update from the NWN2 Launcher. The Updater should tell you that it can't find an Internet connection, and then begin installing the patch. The vofix may take a while, but let it run.

So, yeah. Do what holly said, but unplug your internet before running the updater.

Yes, come on back. It'll be good to see you around again.

I can fit in another DM still, if you want your wand back.

Rrrrrr... DL'd everything and created a character to log in to BG server and have a look around this morning, but every time I select the char and the game begins to load I get booted for some reason. At first I thought it must have been a prob with the server but I tried the same with Silver Marches and ended up with the same result. Any ideas what I might have done wrong? I looked around the forums for a whle but found nothing relatingto this problem.

I would guess your CD Key has changed, or the re-install jumbled your CD keys. Do you have a PC you are trying to return to, or are you just trying to log in as a DM? If the latter, just make a new GSID and connect using that, if it works, that pretty much confirms the CD Key issue.

If you have the chance, contact me on IRC and we can try to sort through the matter to give you access back to your character, if you have one.

Hi AL,

If its a CD key issue then that explains it, I left the original NWN2 cds back home and since then I believe they've been irretrievably lost. I had to buy the game and both of the expansions online from a Direct to drive site and that's what I'm trying to use now. Unfortunately IRC isn't a possiblity, since I've come to Turkey I can't log in from the program itself or from Mibbit, but there isn't much else I can think of to tell you, other than the fact that I would be using a newly created character anyway so if I lost all of the ones in my vault it wouldn't be a problem in the least.

Once again all the help is greatly appreciated,
Misha

Find the .ini file that contains your keys: nwncdkey.ini or something similar. It will list the 3 keys for the game and the 2 expansions. COPY THE FILE somewhere safe, then edit it so that Key #3 replaces Key #1 and vice-versa.
