Thats a vicious cycle though, players hold off aiming for it until it is made properly, while it never gets made properly because no players are playing it.
If the player of an assassin refuses to take levels of assassin because she/he doesn't believe it to be powerful enough, I think there are larger problems than the structure of the class at play. The choosing of build that is counter to RP for the sake of mechanical advantage is, after all, our definition of power gaming.
Well, forgive people for wanting the classes to be as close to canon rather than gimped versions
it doesn't have a custom spellbook right now. But does have spell-like abilities.
Kaedrin made a custom spellbook for the class a while back so it'd be pretty easy to swap the default class out for his (only change being the addition of a spellbook and the removal of those spell-like abilities) He actually did the same with Blackguard as well.
Just saying, Zelk doesn't need to use her time to do this as it can be done much quicker.

<Heero>: yeah for every pc ronan has killed dming, paazin has killed 2 with his spawns
For just short of a year my PC has met the requirements for this prestige class, and I have made my intent to pursue it clear to DM's since the character's inception and original bio. It's mechanical gimpness in nwn2 made no real difference to me and that has never been the issue or a factor in my deciding to shoot for the PrC. I always assumed I was going for the gimp version with the Spell-like abilities.
The only thing that's stopped me is a shortage of DM's who want to do it. One DM started but we were never able to finish, due to scheduling conflicts I guess. Another DM who offered to do it in the past couple weeks is a DM on the server I just got accepted to DM on. These are the only times a DM has expressed interest, and I've been playing this PC with the stated goal of the Assassin PrC since I joined ALFA in August of 2009.
Throw me a frickin' bone, here.
The demand for the class is here. And sure, I'll take it with the spells instead of the abilities, pretty please.

During the recent PA election discussions one of our esteemed HDMs suggested eliminating the need for PrC "quests". While I wouldn't like to see the classes entirely unrestricted for access, some system in which players "petition" the DMs that they play with (with some checks and balances tossed in there) might make more sense in this era of fewer DMs.
I thought PRC "quests" had long been abolished, just like level validation past 4th? Is there still some kind of technical lock in place that prevents one from taking a PRC for which all numerical / feats / etc. requirements are met? If so, why not get rid of them?
PrC quests were jealousy inducing enough in a "dense DM coverage" situation (guaranteed 3-4 solo sessions, assload of building etc. from a dedicated patron DM), if you've got the Sahara desert model of coverage for your timezone at the moment, why add insult to injury and say no PrC until your PLAYER quest to find a DM several times is met? Kind of a "floggings will continue until morale increases" problem there, innit?
If someone who can't find a DM to save their life manages to take a level of say, the Assassin PrC, it isn't game breaking. Trust me, that PC will no doubt have killed for coin, possibly hundreds of times, before they hit whatever the level may be where they'll have met all the numerical requirements. It's also not as if they'll walk down the street handing out business cards, scratching out "Fighter/Rogue" and filling in "Assassin." That's all OOC biz anyhow.
EDIT / AFTERTHOUGHT: worst case, just call the levelling into a PrC an "Extraordinary PC" application to be made to the relevant DM crew via PM. Just like someone might need, at character creation, to explain odd Fey blood feat choices, or Favored Soul request just to make sure you're not the 11th Tymora Favored Soul created on a server... a PM to say "hey can I go into this PrC, here's my bio / spiel / justification" would be a quick "yes, no, or yes if..." answer, as opposed to building/questing/hours burned, though some DMs may also take that as an opportunity to shape a current plotline into a jumping off point for a little customized questing. *shrugs* Net, call it Extraordinary and get it approved, no further hoops.
