An endorsement for Foam

Re: An endorsement for Foam
Different strokes for different folks.
First Character: Zyrus Meynolt, the serene Water Genasi berserker. "I am the embodiment of the oceans; serene until you summon the storm." Zyrus: http://tinyurl.com/9emdbnd
Second Character: Damien Collins, the atypical druid. "What? Being a stick in the mud is boring. No pun intended grins"

Re: An endorsement for Foam
But the joke's not on Foam. Folks just seem to like to take offense on his behalf, maybe he likes that so there's that, but it seems mighty unnecessary. The joke is on ALFA's "constitution". Which might have its strengths over than all the other systems tried, but really such red tape in a dnd community does have more than its fair share of pomp and grandiosity to merit a good laugh and roll of the eyes now and then.Ithildur wrote:We do get the 'joke'. It's not a very good one.
Some people just don't seem to understand that not everything's a joke, especially to the people actually doing the hard work, or those who give a damn about the morale of those folks.

Re: An endorsement for Foam
You guys have talked to Foam? I have. At the end of the day he's going to win, and is going to take it all in stride, but he was not too amused.
It is true though, the joke's not on Foam.

Re: An endorsement for Foam
If anything changes from this its likely to be a small increase in the much dreaded 'Rules' by way of a "must have actual, technical ability" to both TA and Infra nominations.

Re: An endorsement for Foam
How about a chill pill for everyone.
Does Foam contribute a lot of his free time to the project? Yes.
Is that a guarantee or entitlement to gratitude and votes? No - not even if I might personally think it should be.
Endorsing a candidate for being a productive, laudable contributor, as Foam is, is great. More or less directly bashing parts of the electorate is a bit too much in the vein of the vitriol in two-party American politics for my taste, and I'd rather we don't add even more pompous severity to our already pretty self-important (but more or less without alternative) election process. Especially considering Foam at times participated in the "joke"
.
It also seems a bit presumptive of people to know what the candidate(s), or other people, think and how they feel about this. They're (more or less
) mature people running for a position to serve the community, you'd think they could defend themselves if they really saw cause for rightful indignation? I'm not sure we need to create a trend for partisan championship. What's next... "The Veilan Party endorses Boom for LA and will DM an exclusive member-only event on BG on election night!"?
Vote for the candidate you prefer. Elections in this community still are free, secret, equal, direct and im-mediate, so act upon that privilege and don't begrudge someone else using it in whatever way they seem fit, whether you agree with that way or not.
And as the result seems to prove, it seems you can still trust ALFA's electorate
.
Cheers,

Re: An endorsement for Foam
Just a note that I am against requesting people to have tech abilities for running as IA or TA.
Being an Admin in ALFA is more of a political role.
You vote on important things for the community, you see the not so engaging side of things...
In the past we have had a good IA (Barendd for those who remember him) who was not a tech person but had tech guys (Zic, Haltoc and I) do the tech side of things while he managed the political side. It wasn't a bad idea and it worked well.
Now about this election, I wasn't aware of the joke but I thought it was a good thing that someone ran in the election.
Of course he had no chance against Foam but it shows that the process is a democratic one and that anyone can try an run to become an admin and see the batcave and it's dark side...
Oh and before people throw things at me, I voted for Foam of course.

Self made drama is still self made drama. Really surprised anyone fell for this shit.

Re: An endorsement for Foam
Wouldn't be an ALFAn election without drama.
Encouraging to see people get defensive when they saw a 7/6 vote split yesterday morning (which is what caused the thread, for those of you who are wondering WTF this is all about). Thanks for the support! Glad this election wasn't a (as much of a) joke like a previous one.
The trolls can go home now.

Officious German* is officious, and I definitely would not have stepped down to let Jern be the next TA.
Since ALFAns seem to have trouble recognizing the obvious lately, I will state I am NOT referring to Zilvai here.
