I value anonymity and confidentiality.

I would hate to see someone say "OMG someone just sent me $20 as a dm!" in main chat.

I would hate to feel obligated to a player to provide services in the manner of dming.

I would hate to engender more entitlement among those who have more and ignore the humble skill of those who have little, but still contribute time and energy to the creative commons here.

These gifts would truly have to be given for giving's sake and out of the most detached and true admiration.

I remember getting laughed at when I brought up compensating DM's to increase DM coverage around here. Mind you, I was joking about it.

If we're going to head down this road, where some DMs, admin, etc, will begin to get "rewarded" by how much friendship they've accrued.....where do I sign up? Oh...and i'll be sure to be everyone's "friend" when I dm.

Obviously I think this idea can lead to some distortion of the experience around here.

I think we have a few (or at least one, Jern) starving college students here? A few bucks might mean a lot to them. A few bucks does not mean a lot to me; I won't be signing up.

CD, I would imagine Flattr allows anonymous donations. Its also way easier than sending a bee-gram or anything like that.

I sure do need $3 to get by. Hard times without the protection of daddy.

Will DM for a bowl of soup.

Will build for pizza. Or money. Money to help not having an 8-year-old PC.

The idea is tantalizing, but only because I have no real income. Otherwise I don't think it's a really good idea. Besides, if everyone has a $5/month pot to donate from... Wouldn't everyone pretty much even out?

It would, if everyone "Flattr'd" everyone. But I think that wont happen. I know for a fact that I want to "Flattr" you, other tech members, DMs that put in time and effort to making sure i have a good time and to ALFA itself.
pragmatic (adj.)
The opposite of idealistic is pragmatic, a word that describes a philosophy of "doing what works best."
From Greek pragma "deed," the word has historically described philosophers and politicians who were
concerned more with real-world application of ideas than with abstract notions. A pragmatic person
is sensible, grounded, and practical.

i'm really into this, especially for player nuetral contributors like our tech folks, hosts etc. if you want to talk about favoritism, consider we would be kissing the PC butts of our server and vault hosts first, but we see that their PCs are not walking around in +5.

givng a few people some "tips" for helping out around here is more appreciation than pay. I doubt they will earn real money, vs hours spent.

Count me out.

I get as much enjoyment from DMing good players as they get from being DMed. A thanks or smiley is all the payment I require.

Now dance for me Boom! :D
