These were basicly the chat rules before the issue was forced.
Im still failing to see how these rules didnt work apart from a very small amount of abusers trying to constantly push the limits. What is wrong with using these rules along with clearly defined limits of what moderators will take?

The exact thing we need (IE clearly defined limits) is exactly what we cant get out of anyone

Did you even read my other post Swift? Getting constantly threatened for abusing authority because something is not specifically stated in the rules gets really old after awhile. I'm a fair minded individual. When I get told I can't kick or ban someone because the rules have all kinds of gray areas, in all fairness I agree. Due to that the rules become more and more black and white. How many of you ever saw me ban someone from chat for anything but extreme profanity prior to all this?

Edit: Actually, I'm going to stop poking my head in this thread. I did not vote in the poll and don't intend to. Chat is no longer my concern.

No, what we need is for people to stop behaving like the misbehaving kids at the back of the class baiting the teacher and to moderate themselves. The last thing we need is more damn rules and layers of enforcement.

"rule 1" is currently stated as "have fun"

I think it should be seen as "have fun, so long as it isnt at the expense of others", too many people assume that cos THEY are enjoying themselves, the problem lies with the person who feels attacked. Grow up.

You know twiggie, moderatings a forum\chat isnt that hard. I don't know if this community is an exception to the rest of the world or if you are just making it harder for yourself but give people limits and they tend to stick to them. Note, I'm not saying that its not alot of work, it is, but the way you complain about it anyone would think you're being forced to deal with the scum of the earth.

Just be clear about things and enforce them unilateraly. I mean PG-13, what the hell is that? I don't live in the states and I have no idea about your film standards, so I just compared it to a prime time American show I know well, The Simpsons, but it seems they break the rules or whatever. I know rules lawyers can be annoying but then just add a small line "Mod's decision is final".

I find most people, yes even alfans are reasonable. It just seems as though what should be, debatably, the most routine jobs in alfa is creating more sh!tstorms than a frickin lead election.

The rules should be clear, clear doesnt mean exhustive, just clear. Moderaters should just put their head down and get on with the task, and the forums should just go round and round like every other day.

Oh and Annoymous moderaters? Whats that about O_o.

Wait, I always thought PG-13 referred to the UK government's Planning Guidance 13 briefing note that deals specifically with transport policy?

I always thought it was a little weird that levels of chat decency were dictated by the strategic needs of motorway planning, but I believed those in charge knew what they were doing. Are you saying that all this time...I've been living a lie???

If it's really that big a deal (and I don't think it is) we could always make a second unofficial chatroom, #alfa2, for casual conversation, keeping the old one only for player assistance and the likes. The chat nazis can then govern over their empty chatroom while the rest of us enjoy the liberties of a free society. =P

I'd be fine with going back to the days where you had to actually do something to get kicked/banned.

pragmatic (adj.)
The opposite of idealistic is pragmatic, a word that describes a philosophy of "doing what works best."
From Greek pragma "deed," the word has historically described philosophers and politicians who were
concerned more with real-world application of ideas than with abstract notions. A pragmatic person
is sensible, grounded, and practical.
