Okay, I'm new to Alfa, but I played about 23 hours this week. That would probably be a bit low for my normal play time but I was out of town hanging on rocks for a day and a half, and there's no internet connection there. I would guess my normal week would be about 30 hours.
Current character:
Athanumata Si'Athoc (Uma)
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I cannot accept, and the wisdom to hide the bodies of those people I had to kill today because they pissed me off.

Well, when I manage to find somebody else to play with I suspect i could be putting in quite a few hours.

As I recall, at some point this thread was concerned about the XP cap. I'd just like to point out that if this poll is taken at face value, and we accept that the majority of ALFAns play 20hrs/week or less, it would actually argue for a higher cap.
Someone playing constantly would - in theory - rapidly accumulate small amounts of XP, say, consistently averaging 1000/week or so.
However, someone who plays infrequently - according to a regular DM schedule, perhaps - is more likely to have long "dry" periods of little or no XP interspersed with the occasional "burst" of XP from the completion of a plot or long quest. For a high-level PC and/or particularly difficult quest a low XP cap may not allow for the appropriate award.
*Shrugs* Just how I saw it. I'm pretty sure I saw this raised a few months ago as well ...

The spawns only have to fight once. PCs don't have that luxury. -Twisted

I'd personally like to see some proof of this. I've met quite a few players who don't post on the forums (they may visit... but I'd have no way to tell). I've also met a good many more who do visit the forums, but never leave their server forum.MorbidKate wrote:Majority of ALFAns do visit the forums
This is an interesting blanket statement that I'm not sure can be proven or disproven... but I have some doubts.
Current PC: I'm not tellin'. They die when I put their names here.
I'd be willing to bet it was true. Even if it is just the server forums and annoucements (that's what I use to do, before I started DMing), they're still technically visiting the forums.Khazar Stoneblood wrote:I'd personally like to see some proof of this. Server logs could prove or deny this in a matter of minutes. I dare say phpbb2 has something for forum admin to spit out all unique IP addresses that have visited the forum on a particular day or particular period.Khazar Stoneblood wrote:This is an interesting blanket statement that I'm not sure can be proven or disproven... but I have some doubts.
You would just have to ask nicely

Sorry I missed this. I posted a few times over the last month in various threads that I've been monitoring forum usage through a wonderful gizmo Hialmar created. As I've given up my Admin control I no longer have access to it, but the last time I checked, it showed a >50% usage rate across a three month period and an approximate 33% usage across a 1 month period. More than half of our registered 1205 members were active in a way that meant they had either posted to the forums or logged into their member account on the web in 3 months. More than 400 of those members had actually done so within 4 weeks, showing a pretty solid interest in ALFA current affairs. Any Admin with web admin access may provide a weekly figure, which I don't have for this week, if they wish.
Enjoy the game

Interesting to see this. It wish we could compare the 400 casual visitors we have with the number who actually go in-game and play with any regularity. I believe the best guesstimate we have is about 200. If this is true then at least we are in a situation where we have a large pool of non-playing members we can reach out to and try to get playing again. This is excellent news because at least we have a members who will at least read something directed at them.Wynna wrote:Sorry I missed this. Perhaps Admin could PM or email these casual members with a survey or questionnaire to ask them for insight into why they don't play and what it would take to get them back in-game?
Certainly worth consideration I would think.
Thanks Wynna,
Kate
