December is the regularly scheduled month for Lead Admin elections, so this one will have to run concurrent with the Player Admin election.

All members in good standing are eligible to run.

The successful candidate will serve until June 2009.

Please do not post in this thread unless you are self-nominating.

Self-noms last for one week from the time of this post.

I hereby self-nominate for Lead Admin. My platform is simple:

I Hate You All -- I do. You're bad people. I think wolves should gnaw your legs off while you sleep - or dingos for our Aussie members - and giant mutant mosquitos should lay eggs in your esophagi, so their younglings may devour your precious lifeblood from inside before bursting out of your mouths in a maelstrom of hungry insects, looking for more people like you to kill.

However, hating you all is not so simple, and I thus provide a plan to express this hatred in an efficient manner, which will be carried out if I am elected:

1. Puppies Shall Be Kicked -- And not in the "bad puppy, you've piddled on the rug" way. They shall be given stuff punts near their centers of gravity in an effort to cause the kick to generate lift. These temporarily flying puppies, I believe, shall grace our community with the esthetic of the suffering of innocent animals. Their confused and defeated whimpers shall make a soundtrack for our home page, and potentially a nice theme song for the forums.

2. Kittens Shall Be Drowned -- I think the best solution to the lolcat infestation is to find the animals while they are defenseless and remind everyone that cats are terrible swimmers, and that they're even worse swimmers when stuffed in a bag with nine more just like them and thrown into an icy pond in the middle of winter. There is a pond less than a quarter mile from my house; it hasn't quite frozen over yet. I think I could accomplish this before the winter months really set in.

3. Young Ones Shall Be Sold Into Slavery -- This point has a twofold purpose; human trafficing is a surprisingly lucrative business, and by virtue of hating you all, I hate all of our members who are legally minors. And young women and children are worth the most money, but while the young women will also become slaves, they will be serving drinks in my doom fortress (built upon the profit from human trafficing and demonic barters for other people's souls.) rather than being sold to unsettling individuals overseas.

4. New Strains of Mosquito Will be Engineered -- See above.

5. Wolf and Dingo Attack Training Will be Sponsored -- See above.

Similarly, my LA staff positions will be altered, and I would seek willing members to fill three newly-created positions:
1. Minister of Xenophobia -- shall be responsible for chiding new members in an effort to make them leave; I believe our current efforts at this are disorganized and, thus, waste much of our efforts.
2. Minister of Abuse -- shall be responsible for organizing cruelty and persecution when directed between members of the community. Currently, these efforts are also highly disorganized and, thus, waste much of our efforts.
3. Chancellor of Oppression -- shall be responsible for assuring that no new content is ever brought to the community. The post will likely require the appointment of councilors that will make use of different varieties of naysaying. I suspect that, initially, we will need a Councilor of Fear, a Councilor of Conservatism, and a Councilor of Apathy.

I've decided that it's once again time for a woman's touch. I'm throwing my hat into the ring for Lead.

I'll post my platform tomorrow, but my overall intent is to bring a sense of pride back to this community.

On The Lead Position
I see the LA not as the one who controls the community, but more as a diplomat. The LA stands as a portal between the world and the community as well as between the varied members of ALFA. This is a position of service rather than power. The question is not “how can I make things happen?” but “how can I help you?” It’s about smoothing ruffled feathers, not rattling cages, presenting an image of dignity, not engaging in flame wars. The Lead is ALFA’s “Statue of Liberty” – welcoming in the masses and inspiring pride so that they do not leave. Yes, the lead may hold the power of Veto, but when that is seen as supporting the community, it is not power, but service. Yes, the lead has oversight of Administration, but oversight does not mean control. It means serving as the go to person when issues arise that need deliberation. The lead is ALFA’s figurehead, not ALFA’s CEO.

On Change
My platform is not based on radical change. There may be things that need to be changed, but I do not support changing things unless doing so would be an improvement. I prefer to look at the over all picture - past, present, and future – when a problem arises, then to focus on the future when determining the need for change. What will the long-term effects be? In my 6 years as a member I’ve seen changes made to “fix” things only to have those fixes make the situation worse or to create other problems worse than the original. I believe this could have been avoided if a longer view was taken instead of just trying to plug the leak.

There may be things that are broken in ALFA, but it stands on a firm foundation. I do not believe we should rip apart what we’ve done. Rather, we may need to tweak what we have to improve it. It’s the old saying: “Let’s not throw the baby out with the bath water”. We must be certain than what we do improves us, that we do not loose sight of what really matters, and then we must actually do it.

On Being Qualified for the Position.
I’ve been a member of ALFA since April 2002 (Pre-release of NWN1). I was an ADM and EADM (Building and scripting only) for NWN1 North Underdark (Originally Ched Nasad) from the time it was first set up as a server, almost to the end. I’ve seen faces come and go from ALFA, some of them loved, some hated, some banned, but I respected all of them for the color and passion which they brought to the community.

My name is Gerri, I’m Female, Age: 51, Mother of 2 sons age 24 and 21, Married to the same man for 25 years. My best qualities are a steadfast calm, a strong desire to finish what I’ve started, and a thick skin. I attribute all of these to middle age and living with three males for over 20 years. I’ve played PNP D&D since I was 21. I still do on a weekly basis. (So do not ever expect to be able to contact me on Saturday night.)

It has been over a year since I have been active in ALFA. In that time I’ve often come by to read the forums, some times daily, some times only weekly. I’ve usually only read the General Forums to keep up on the gossip and drama, with occasional forays into the Builders Forums to see how the development was progressing. This means that I know little to nothing of where things stand behind the scenes. I think this is a good thing because I am familiar with ALFA and how it operates, but am not tainted by current hard feelings or bitterness. It will be easy to learn what needs to be learned, to focus on the job, when there are no frustrations cluttering the mind or anger coloring the view. I offer a fresh perspective, a clear head, and a willingness to serve the community rather than my own agenda.

Does that make me qualified for the position? That is your decision.
