Year in ALFA review.

Post by Heero »

Post your accomplishments, character achievements, memorable moments, DM or player props for RP or stories, etc. from the past year here in this topic.

Ill start.

Here are a few things that stick out in my mind:

Being killed in a single round of combat by a doe deer.
While in combat with a different doe deer, trying to heal myself with healing potion only to use said potion on deer rather than myself.
Achieving level 2 on a drow PC only to be killed a day or two later by a beetle.

And one not so humiliating...Holly's witch PC. I really enjoyed this PC.

Anything you people wish to add about your experiences?
Heero just pawn in game of life.

Had more player disputes come my way than ever before :(

I can't work out if this is a good thing (more people aware of the systems) or a bad thing (more people acting like assholes).

Outside of ALFA, as of three days ago, I am now a fully qualified teacher.

This year...

Alyra Ashedown formally adopted within the Ironbeard Clan.
The continued plot of Duergars to poison the waters above and below was thwarted, After many artifacts were uncovered, amongst which the Blade of the Old Delzoun King, The Crown of the Old Delzoun Queen, and the Guardian Stones. The ancient site of Old Delzoun was uncovered, and the leader of the plot was cast down along with his allies of illithid, and the Avatar of Deep Duerra herself prevented from walking upon the lands of the Marches, after the ancient guardians of Old Delzoun were shaken from their slumber. A new alliance to the Marches forms with the Deep Gnomes, an alliance honored by Felbarr with an ancient Delzoun weapon.
Meanwhile, the Eye of Warcrown falls to Frost Giants during the time period the Duergar are mercilessly delt with.
Whilst practicing killing frost giants for his expected return to the Marches to retake the Eye of Warcrown, Garlus meets his end, and is buried deep within the halls of Old Delzoun by his Daughter and close friends.

I'd like to give special thanks to Loulabelle, Acadius, NES, SSM, and of coarse Viigas for making Garlus's journey truely epic. There are so many points that stand out as just exceptional, I wouldn't be able to list them all off. It was a pleasure and honor to have my story weaved into each of yours.

Itishi saves the silver with Malmsy! Never trust a rat....
and tries hard to keep alive, in the face of wyverns, kobolds, orcs, and a myriad of do-badders whom are being culled one at a time!

Thanks to Miz, Kid, CD, Ronan, Lokan, OGR and JLM for getting me in tune with my new PC. It's great to make a 180 degree turn and continue on!

I wrote a book, I guess that is pretty momentous.

In game it was slow, though I have begun to tinker around in the toolset which is providing some small measure of relief for TSM.

This caps the first full year of MS being around as an ALFA server.

We've expanded greatly since we went live in Oct. of 2010. I'd like to thank all the builders, players, DMs, & tech people who contributed everything from areas to debugging, to participating in our sessions.

As for my accomplishments: (1) finally got an ALFA PC I like going again...long live the gnome lord *looks about to see if anything that could eat him overheard* ahem. (2) Made some areas for MS that some people like, including my really high up tree houses. (3) Fixed numerous bugs on the server.

Surviving the sessions in the Underdark run by Viigas (so far...). Hands down the most fun and challenging stuff I've done in a while. Kudos to DM and players involved.

While I've no plans to play a Bladesinger anytime in the near future atm, it's great to finally see an ALFA PC who's about to become one. Both PC and player have earned it from what I've seen - I still don't know how Elenaril stayed alive for so long doing what he does, the guy makes negative HPs look stylish.

I did not get to loot Sywyn's corpse... oh wait, highlights. (j/k! Look forward to the machinegun Ranger getting his as well)

Visiting the 'new' BG (last time I saw it was over 2 years ago iirc); so far it's been impressive and a blast.

Seeing Miz return to ALFA (sorry if I'm forgetting about other vets who've returned this year).

Tech Team.

Aglaril saving the lives of two other elven PCs (only to have it all be retconned due to ooc drama, but still was fun...)

Aglaril not being hated by everyone he meets, and actually getting a surprising amount of positive feedback from DMs and players. I'm glad people seem to be entertained more often than annoyed.

Merry Christmas!

Lets see, achievements in the past year.

Well, I came in to ALFA this year, and managed to survive the big difference in the way this server plays then others with out to many of my PC's dieing.

Managed to make a small name for myself I think, most people at least in chat seem to know at least who I am, if nothing else.

Managed to get dmed by Ksiel a few times before he quit dming, I consider that an accomplishment.

Managed to see my first PC rez preformed on a friend (and managed to help pay for it.)

Real life stuff....

Started my first real year of college, declared my major, passed all my finals and somehow managed to get passed FA (which if you have ever dealt with financial aid and you are not rich you know why that is an accomplishment in and of itself, lol)
Current PC:
Pc 1: Kalavaria
Pc2: -
Retired PCs:Kyrinil, Isabella, Sayset, Iadeth, Araessa, Kalix Silvith
Past PCs: Astri, Navanna, Vess, Isett

<paazin_> I hate you.

Puny: I would stomp on a spider wearing my future babies face.

Boom: I hope he dies in a flying aids fire.

*Dm'd the authentic birth the second live birth of Alfa 2 (Madeline & Jonathan's, 009_npc_hu_baby_Rosa)
*Dm'd Harvestide Maze Event I never dreamed could be so fun
*Dm'd the hand-fastings of two Alfa power-couples (that cursed time schedules have schismed, what is the deal with that?)
*Designed multiple areas for MS and BG inside and out
*Finished a campaign style plot based on "In the Halls of the High King"
*I added five prefabs to the NWN2vault
*Did my first surprise SVU examination of a traumatized character.

I sacrificed a number of virgins to satan-- no small feat, as they are getting younger every year.

2011 was a year of a new PC for me. Late 2010 saw the retirement of Rathalan Whitsword so I had Hully for the entirety of 2011. This links very closely with the live status of Moonshaes, as I launched Hulurin Tosscobble the same week that MS went live.

Memorable moments.....

1) Entering Darkhorn at level 2 with Jendari and others and busying myself looting sausages and pipeweed from the banite storehouses while the others fought. Then being both literally and metaphorically shaken down in the druid grove but he cranky PCs afterward :)

2) Hully being chased by undead seagulls all over the docks of Corwell as he held a "necromantic shard" trying to find the best way to seel it for maximum profit. ( he ended up giving it away pretty quickly after said undead attack ;) )

3) The best ongoing regular campaign I've had since wynna left. THANKS TRIDISUS and the PCs of that campaign! Having a DM right there with you a couple times a week as you develop a pc is huge boon and lots of fun. Also, the players, jmecha and (*gags as he says it* ) even Burt made for some hgh quality RP.

4) The underwater assault on the temple. It was close to a TPK and a lot of fun.

All in alll I say it was a pretty good year.

:party2: Congrats! Welcome to the the great fraternity of educational professionals! Here is your nerf sword and nerf shield, a jar of Vitamin C, and a big jug of hand sanitizer.

PS. Also I don't think there are more problems Rotku, you just happen to be dealing with them and doing your job instead of them mysteriously disappearing into the netherworlds of previous PAs. It is a sign you are doing a good job!

The fact that my Water Genasi fighter/barbarian is still alive. I was totally expecting him to die within a month or two of making him just from the ECL. Instead, I got treated ti an awesome GLobal plot from Mira and Jayde that kickstarted his new journey on the surface world.

Now he's a full plated, greatsword wielding monster who can go berserk and clear rooms pretty easily.

Also the fact that Water Genasi are incredibly difficult to pull off well with the way I'm trying to roleplay one. The emotional rollercoaster that is a serene berserker is... different, but awesome.
First Character: Zyrus Meynolt, the serene Water Genasi berserker. "I am the embodiment of the oceans; serene until you summon the storm." Zyrus: http://tinyurl.com/9emdbnd

Second Character: Damien Collins, the atypical druid. "What? Being a stick in the mud is boring. No pun intended grins"

Seeing Sword's Edge take off again...

Seeing jmecha return and go "balls-to-the-wall" hardcore again...

Seeing Dan lose Garlus, and then return with a wonderful new PC...

Seeing Malmsy carry Dan's shiny new PC to Sir Severen after getting mugged by bandit wolves...

Seeing Alyra Ironbeard and Bevan Tark fighting side by side...

Seeing the elven faction finally taking flight...

And getting to torture my old friends (and some fun new friends) once again with the train wreck that is Gwen...

Splendid fun, and I thank you all for it :D

In game:
*Mari falling and getting redeemed was pretty awesome. Afterwards, she got knighted, which was definitely very awesome. Watching her grow up has been fun.
*Getting to play with Miz. I missed all the Alfa 1 fun b/c I had no computer at the time, so this is really awesome.
*Garlus dying was hard. He's been around since my first PC (Myoro), and every PC I've had has interacted with him in some way. In some way, Garlus almost symbolized, to me, at least, what Alfa truly is at its best: well-played characters, plots, and people.
*All in all, I've enjoyed this year of RP which means there's probably a thousand wonderful little things I don't remember consciously that's formed my opinion.

Out of game:
*After 16 years, I finally got a degree. Associate of Arts. It's a tiny degree, but, to me, it's huge. After failing out of college after being an A/B student almost all my educational life, it was a big blow not to graduate. Going back was on a whim after a bout of depression and getting ticked at myself for allowing myself to get soft. If no other doors open for me, I can say when I'm old and grey that I made it.
