Pro Tip: Light Spell

So apparently you can target your shield (or other item) with the light spell. It means you wont end up with a bright light bulb over your head (which screams "shoot me!"). You still get the light affect, and the shield can be handed off to someone else who gains the light effect.

Tip from Kid.

Seems that isn't in the spell description. Sad times-- that totally shipped with the game.

So, yeah, the spell is trying to create the effect that the thing you touch (which can be anything) glows like a torch for the duration of the spell, so it slaps a light effect on anything that can accept a light effect, but puts wonky glowey globes over some of those things to accomplish as much.

The item can be put away to extinguish the light (temporarily); cast it on your shield or weapon, put it away so that you're not walking around with the glow above your head constantly... especially nice if your party has scouts that are getting annoyed at you for giving away your position constantly.

Every time I've done that with an item on Tam (hat usually) the light level is much lower than that from a floaty-target-orb-thing.

Still, pro tip is pro!

I think the usual light spell does give somewhat more light than does a torch, so maybe there's the difference: If it reverts to a ball on top of your head it gives more light, whereas the light effect on a sword (for example) gives less. Like one of those "ring of [color] light [5/10/15 m]" we have.

The ball certainly is non-canonical and occasionally bonkers. Maybe a tech wizard could alter the light spell to default to affecting an item worn by the target when targeted at a creature? (First try armor slot, if empty try hat, etc...)?
