Fox news, The Weekly Standard, etc are my sources for news. I do watch CNN, NBC, MSNBC, but its more to hear the other sides comments and also to watch total asshats like Keith Obermann and Chris Mathews. The guy who does Meet the Press is right alongside those guys too, but atm I cant remember his name. Shames me hes an alum from Wash U.

I can see the left and right slants all around. I was in journalism also back in high school and college so I know how it goes. We all take in info and believe it or not. I just choose to believe the news from sources closer to my own beliefs. Doesnt mean I wouldnt seriously look into something from another source just because they werent quoting party lines.

Helios, belief is understood when it comes to religion, but we're not talking something that should accepted on mere faith. We have the right to know, and it is our 'duty' to find out.

Wow. Propaganda is only propaganda if it's working?

A few people in this thread need to pause for a momment before writing their next post rather than just spurting out words, hoping to beat the (hopefully impending) thread lock.

LOL...I may have bungled the quote format on that last one, but you get the idea.
Yup. No worries

I think hes just treading water right now hoping for something good to happen. The troop surges in Iraq have to take time to really work and he cant wave a magic wand and cure all the problems over there. Americans want things done and want them done now, but thats not how shit really works.
Danubus, - Rudy Guiliani 08? That's where I'm leaning
Im sorry I wont vote for Rudy. He had his moment in the sun back during the 9-11 issues, but I personally do not agree with him. I dont trust him really. Hes been married like what...3-4x?? (Ive been married 2x so I know I dont have a lot of room to talk), but hes also flip flopped on abortion issues and gay rights and those 2 issues are definite no flip flop issues for me.

Im actually in limbo when it comes to who I want to support. I really do not care for any of the republican candidates. I am also not real fond of any of the Democratic candidates and God help us if that twit Hillary wins. I just dont know, man. I want a candidate thats tough, willing to work with congress, and wont back down from his beliefs.

So, if you were drafted into the conflict, what would you do? Feel free to express your opinion.
I can honestly state I don't know. Maybe I'd go, maybe I'd go to Canada. Or Mexico. Or whatever. Would depend. On what, I'm not sure.

Certainly, the numerous Nam vets I've heard/read essentially expressing the opinion 'stay away from combat if at all possible' would have some bearing.

Equally, the cause of the draft would have bearing. As is, a draft would political suicide. It'd take a rather significant event to change that, and I can't very well say what I'd do in case of x.
I can donate and do all I can, when I can.
Respect. I dunno how to type that without seeming condescending, so [insert sincerity emoticon here].

talking about donating... how about donating to life-preserving causes, instead of life-taking causes? I mean, what's all this yell and holler for supporting the troops, when there's an entire government, virtually all the tax dollars, and everyone's future Social Security benefits, being thrown into filling Iraqis, insurgent and collateral, with bullets and bomb fragments?

It's not an unreasonable choice. Of the incredible amount of money poured into this war, the U.S. could have ended starvation in the 'whole' of Africa. Think about it...

Excellent, that sounds like Hillary except for changing the "his" to "her." Of course, while she won't back down from her beliefs, I don't think she shares your beliefs on certain issues. For example, I believe she believes gay folks should have the same rights as other folks in this country - can you believe the audacity? Those gay folks want equality! They want jobs and families - the nerve!

hes also flip flopped on abortion issues and gay rights
How has he changed? Honest question. I was watching an interview with him last night that sounded like he was pretty consistent, at least on his abortion views, which I realize you don't agree with. I don't remember hearing anything about gay rights though. Of course, I spent most of yesterday puking my guts out, so my memory may be foggy.

We are getting way off track here, but if I must...move to Europe or Canada. Im sure they would love to have you

I really dont want to get into a pissing match with you Mik because Ive come to a point in my life where Im actually respect you a great deal with your workings at ALFA. Your personal life is your own and I dont really want to go back and forth over all again. We just disagree and that wont change.

My issues with Rudy and gay rights is he use to be against any chance in hell gays would get the same rights and privileges that real couples enjoy. Hes since flip flopped (probably wanting to grab moderate Dem votes while still trying to appease most republicans). The issue over gay rights seems to get nastier and nastier as the years go by and I believe that when more older americans die off then Gay rights/Gay marriage will happen in America, but not before. (sure we have it already in some states, but not nationwide). Most younger Americans are Liberals or believe more in tune with the Democratic party. I honestly dont believe in the future the Republican party will have the numbers to fight off the changing attitudes of most americans. The spoiled little brats growing up today know nothing of real hardships, sacrifice or anything that this country was based on and hence why we see more of our youth going down the toilet and emphathizing with the liberal stance and being more tolerant of gay issues.

Tell me about it. First the uppity women wanted to be treated equal, then the uppity blacks, now its the uppity gays. Pretty soon, we're all gonna have to respect each other as people and then we might as well lie down and die, cause who wants to live in that hell?

They can take my bigotry (substitute a value-neutral term here, if you prefer) when they pry it from my cold, dead hands!

Sure. The best way to halt illegal immigration is to mine the border. Let's see them fellas get past hundreds of thousands of bouncing bettys.

Its not a matter of equal rights to me. Its a matter of religion. People expect me to roll over and be tolerant. I personally dont want to sound like a bigot or whatever anyone thinks of me, but I also dont want to roll over and give up a fight that most americans my age or older dont want to concede. I dont hate anyone. If a gay person wants to live their lives the way they see is right for them then fine, but I personally dont want to see our government give them equal rights with insurance, health care, etc. Im sure as I said in the future it will happen, but doesnt mean those of us who are conservatives wont fight it as best we can.

I know a number of folks who are gay and are great people to be around and I actually call some my friends and some my family members. Its their choice to make and it doesnt make me hate them, but it doesnt make me want to just let them have whatever they want either. Tolerance doesnt mean I have to cave in.
