It is happening to far far too many people for it to not be the game. I could go through the cell to get to Rivet city, but can't enter the cell again. There is a suggestion that it has to do with the order in which locations are visited and quests are completed. Whatever is happening, the game is hard crashing every single time I try to enter that cell.
Let me know the results of running OCCT for 30 minutes.

Nobody have reported any crashes that i'm aware of on #alfa. Mord, Burt, GF, Spider, Kill, KL, KMJ, Fluff, Thorin etc. It works for us..

Just saying don't be so quick to yell at Bethesda. Would make you look real stupid if it turns out its user-error because your hardware is unstable huh :D

I never crashed near the Jefferson Memorial, the only time I ever crashed was when I dove off the side of Rivet City looking for Pinkerton and it crashed while I was under water.

I crashed once while exiting the game, and once trying to load a game. Never had a sudden crash while playing.

Welp, I picked up the game and I was a bit suprised by it. No crashes - Though I've encountered a reoccuring bug involving the haircut robot thing. It doesn't show my character in the haircut pop-up rather it shows just above his head and it will refuse to zoom. Dunno how it happaned just sorta did. - created a new character and the bug doesn't occure during creation. The VATS system is cumbersome and requires a bit of getting used too and the only difficulty worth playing on is either hard or very hard. - Very hard creates enemies that take several shots to the noggin' even with a small arms skill of 95. So I switched from very hard early in the game to hard later in the game. All in all, for a bethesda game it's better then the rest. - Morrowind might be considered their magnum opus solely for its atmosphere if it wasn't so poor combat-wise. This game is no fallout. It does the FPS - RPG blend reasonably well. Anyway, good game, pick it up, and it needs a CS for extra win.

Music folder (PC only):
Several scores from composer Ennio Morricone.
Several songs from the anime cowboy bebop.
musical group: Earth - Hex
Musical score from the television series Stephen King's The Stand (book is better, check it out)
Music from both fallout 1 & 2.
EDIT: Russian Circles - Enter
EDIT: Every Red Heart Shines toward the Red Sun (The songs don't fit nearly as well - but the chinese commentary behind it is dead awesome and fitting for the universe of fallout.)

I'm not going to run OCCT for 30 minutes.

A fair number of people are reporting the exact same symptoms as I am having. That is not indicative of just an instable system, especially when people are reporting it occuring on the XBox 360 and PS3 as well. There are also plenty of people on the Bethesda Tech Forums saying "I'm not having any crashes, why are you complaining?". That doesn't help. I don't care if you're not having crashes. I am, and it's stopped me from completing the game.

Apart from that, a LOT of people are reporting general crashing. And that's just the people who can be bothered registering on the forums there, so basically just the tip of the iceberg.

A new game in need of a patch? OMG!

You must have gone postal when NWN1 first came out Nick :P

Chill and ye shall receive in short order.

I'm trying to decide if it's worth a purchase myself. I watched my older bothers play Fallout, played a little Fallout 2 and thought it was utterly original and fun. Is there any multi-player element to Fallout 3?

I'm not stressing out about it.

I am a bit annoyed that it's a show stopper, but it's still a brilliant game and I'd recommend getting it once it's been patched. Bioware, however, have been very good at supporting and patching NWN1. Bethesda were fairly lack-lustre about bug fixing in my experience of Oblivion, never fixing a fairly severe bug in the game and generally denying its existance. Their support pointed me towards a community made fix, which does some kind of hex editing on the saved files or something far too technical to not be an official fix, anyway.

I am also a bit annoyed by people saying that just because they are not experiencing a problem that it must not exist. Blaming the user/hardware/anything but the software is a classic way for programmers to avoid looking into a problem... Telling me to do a stress test on my system and telling me I'll feel stupid if I don't is one of the most cynical things Zicada could have said. And he doesn't even work for Bethesda.

No, it is what anyone who actually works in IT would suggest. First make completely sure your system is not the source of the issue.

Why won't you run OCCT ? Afraid it will crash proving the issue is with your system ? ;)

Surely you have better examples of Zic behaving badly

The game has only been out a few days so I'm not surprised at all that there might be issues. I assume your using the latest drivers for your vid card, have defragged recently and purged your computer of spyware/malware crud? If not, I suggest http://www.malwarebytes.org and http://www.superantispyware.com finishing with http://www.ccleaner.com to ditch all those temp files.

Hope that helps,

Kate

I have had one crash in this game, and I have been all over the place. No hitching during VATS, no constant CTDs, etc. The one crash was during the Dumwich Building, where my screen starting getting artifacts and eventually went all white -- I restarted the game and promptly finished the area (quick saving as the screen was messing up, the load not bringing it back).

All in all, I enjoy Fallout 3. One of my biggest issues was picking a way to play the character, which made me remake four times (each with different looks) before I even got to Megaton. Other bothersome occurrences are some of the NPC dialogue/options and third person view being horrifying when running (Beth's best character models to date, yet they still can't properly model movement).

If anyone is looking for a game to spend their time on, get your hands on Fallout 3.

Disclaimer: Although I do not promote it, my copy is not retail. This may or may not be a reason as to why crashes are not occurring, as I believe some others who are not having these issues in ALFA own, like myself, non-retail.

No, I have worked in IT for 12 years. I have never suggested a stress test. It may be something I would suggest as a last resort, but it has never gotten that far before. Maybe you do things differently in Norway, but when someone displays a symptom, I investigate the symptom.

I am not going to run the stress test because I am not going to waste half an hour when I am already fairly confident it is a bug. Given that I am far from an isolated case and the exact same issue is also occuring on the two console platforms, that is a very big indication that it's a software problem.

As I indicated, I'm not overly concerned about there being issues with the game on release. As long as Bethesda addresses them. I do have the latest driver for my card. Crud on my computer wouldn't explain why the same thing is happening for some XBox 360 and PS3 users. Thanks for trying to help, anyway, Kate.

Picked it up on release day and loving it. There's a few issues, but I like it so far. Also, my brother is hooked now and we are having to share game time. It's good enough that we both like watching each other play our separate characters and completely different approaches to the game.

You can't keep playing after finishing the main quest anyway, so go explore.
