Jericho

OK, so I've been watching this, and it's up to like the 5th episode here. There's one thing I don't get. People are driving around for no apparent reason, including one scene where someone drives home from the bar, yet when they try to get petrol to power the generator in the medical clinic, most people refuse to give them what they have. Shops remain open, selling food instead of slowly rationing what food they have as a community. When the electricity comes back on, they use it without a thought, including lights on during the day, TVs being left on all the time, and vaccuuming. People sitting around at a cafe with their laptops on, trying in vain to read their emails, wasting their laptop batteries.

So is this all a commentary on the wastfulness of American society? Or is it really the belief of what would happen in that situation?

Meh. Overall, I think it's a good idea for a series, but the execution is a bit poor.

I think what theyre trying to drive home is that people would most likely need some time to change what theyre used to. Things like the infermary blacking out and nearly killing people serve as wakeup calls. Also, theyre not even sure what has happened yet, or atleast how big it is, in the first few episodes.
I agree with some of what youre saying though. I was thinking the same thing in the beginning. Things change a bit for the better after a while though. Youve got some pretty good episodes coming up.

There is some of that idiocy, yeah. But you're also on episode five. The first five episodes are terrible, the show gets a LOT better starting with the next one.

Ah, good. Because nothing really seems to be happening yet. The first 5 episodes could really have been condensed into 2 or 3.

The first five episodes are only useful for establishing what's going on and who the characters are. It's still no Deadwood, but the producers said the network let them do whatever they wanted after episode six and the improvement is remarkable.

I never saw Deadwood. According to Wikipedia, it got shown here on a channel I can't pick up and a satelite channel I don't get. :?

:O

Deadwood is probably the best show ever. You gotta rent it. I actually have a useless set of Australia/New Zealand region DVDs of the second season. If you like it maybe you can help me recoup some of my loss on these. ;)

Sopranos. You lose.

P.S. I will download Jericho once it's finished airing, as Americans are known for being bastards when it comes to television schedules.

I saw the first two episodes of Jericho and was so appalled by the level of suckage I saw I swore an oath never to watch that cursed show again!

I no longer have a DVD player (well, unless you count my computer, of course...)! It got stolen a year ago and I never bothered to replace it.

You can watch it on the CBS website. Look under the innertube section. It has all the episodes aired so far.

I'll have a look when I get home from work, but they tend to only be available if you're in America.

I'm pretty sure that's US only, for some reason.

Anyway, watch the show until the two parter where they go out looking for medicine. If you aren't hooked by that then you probably just won't like it, but you cannot judge its current quality by anything prior to that.
