A Land Far Away

WASHINGTON, DC—Though the film isn't scheduled for release until June 29, a New York Times/CBS News poll found that nearly half the nation believes Michael Moore's new health care documentary Sicko is "unpatriotic," "disgusting," and "ill-informed."

"This film is absolutely tasteless and misguided, and I can't believe theaters are even showing it," said GOP presidential candidate Sen. Sam Brownback (R-KS), who, along with the rest of the nation, has not yet seen the film. "I thought the role of a documentary filmmaker was to be objective, but moviegoers are going to leave the theater thinking that there is something wrong with some part of the United States, and that is just flat-out untrue."

The other half of the nation has praised Sicko, calling it a "real eye-opener" that would "challenge people's preconceived notions."

You just can't beat the kind of credibility you get by passing judgement on something you have no experience with or knowledge of. Makes Moore look like a paragon of integrity by comparison.

The Onion is pretty weak oftentimes, but this isn't bad...

I wonder where these people who are apparently able to see the future were when, say, the war in iraq was about to begin. Would've been sortof handy, you know?

Not sure if people are aware (after me and Dergon mentioning the Onion), that the story Cassiel posted is satirical. At the same time though, damned believable, that Michael Moore polarizes people pretty well.

Whether man made or not, it is one of the largest issues facing the world today. Even if man is 100% blameless for the planet heating up (with the amount of crap we pump into the atmosphere, i cannot believe anyone can think that we are not part of the problem) we still need to find a solution rather than sitting back and going "She'll be right"

Not that like a religion. I mean, I haven't seen environmentalists:
(1) attacking people with big cars with metal bars
(2) burning down garages
(3) insisting that the teaching of geography is replaced by a hippy course in meditation and the way in which mountains are formed not by the movement of the earth's plates but by beauty spots on the face of mother earth
(4) deciding that the best way to reduce car-related pollution is not to encourage people to drive cars in safer ways, but by telling them they can't drive cars at all until they're certified as green by the head druid, until which time they must walk everywhere, preferably without thinking about driving. They're not sure about cycling, as it may lead to driving, and is immoral anyway
(5) setting up special environmental groups which you can join for the special price of one-quarter of your income
(6) going around telling everyone that unless they become carbon-neutral they're going to spend the afterlife in a fiery pit
(7) claiming the environmental problems are the fault of gays, liberals, lesbians, communists, and people for the American Way
(8) playing banjos and chanting

Ok, perhaps they're guilty on that last one.

Who cares. We can move planets when this old rock dries up.

By solution, do you mean STOP global warming? Achieve some sort of harmonious equilibrium in nature? You understand that our very existence is a contributing factor. We eat. We breathe. We give off energy. We emit Carbon Dioxide (and other gases). This isn't just about petroleum. I think our chances of preventing the earth from warming (and then some day freezing) are probably next to nil and remaking the world to simply slow down the inevitable is probably not very practical.

So my recommendation is, be smart. Invest in Dutch floating homes. Make a bunch of money and book a flight out of the Milky Way with Captain Burt.

About SICKO - I don't need to watch Mr Moore's *movie* to know that the system is broken. I just look at my medical bills. Filming a "documentary" and running it in movie theatres doesn't fix anything, but it does make money.
