Just a few questions, before I book the tickets.

(1) Did we decide to go with the Mini-bus idea? And if so, is there room in there for a Rotku?
(2) What day are we meant to be meeting in Sydney?
(3) Would someone be able to supply a bed to sleep in for a Rotku the night or two before we get the bus, or how ever long we'll be in Sydney for? He's house trained and is more than willing to pay board or food or what ever.
(4) Ditto the above for Melbourn, but add a few days afterwards as well, if possible, to give me time to see the city!

On a tight budget, so trying to minimise costs as much as possible, as I'm sure everyone else is ;)

Aye, we need to start working out exactly what we are going to do. My boss says i can have the holidays for as long as i want, so i can make the weekend or the 4 days from australia day that bool threw up without a problem.

We should start working out where and when we will be doing things asap though, since some of us have tickets to book :D

Well, I'm going to be arriving in Brisbane on the 18th of Jan to spend some time with a friend up there. And leaving on the 3rd from Melborun. Training down from Brisbane to Sydney at sometime or another. Atleast that's what I've currently got planned. I'm completely flexable with the times inbetween, just those two flight times (unless I change my mind) are probably going to stay there. Gives me 17 days over there!

Like I said before, I would like a bit of time to see Melbourn, been to Brisbane and Sydney before, but never Melborun.

How long is the drive from Sydney?

Ok, i will PM every aussie that might even be considering coming if needs be, but this is something Dran and I talked about a bit in chat the other night.

Taking on Bools idea of hiring a minibus, anyone that has to fly could meet in Sydney on australia day, crash the night somewhere, then spend all day friday in the bus on the drive down to melbourne. Im guessing it would take a good day to get there, so that would give us saturday and sunday for the full on gettogether that would include our melbourne based peeps (Thangs, indio, strakkor and Zekal).

Could leave earlier, but Dran will be at the big day out on the Australia Day thursday, and i wouldnt mind crashing at bools place (if its cool) and watching the cricket for the day ;)

I also echo Rotkus sentiments. With Rotku, Lou and AC needing to book international flights and make arrangements, we really should get this nailed down asap. I also wouldnt mind getting my holidays and flights booked as well.

I have no problem with whoever and however many want to spend the night here on the Thursday 26th.

(An interesting aside - I may not actually be there all evening - but that isn't a problem.)

SO, I think we can set this as the final plan, as suggested by Swift above:

 Thursday - all non-Sydneysiders make their way to Sydney, by whatever means - to gather at Bool's place.
 Friday - those gathered leave Bool's via bus, and pick up other Sydneysiders, then head for Melbourne. (This will be an all day trip.)
 Saturday & Sunday - meet up with Melbournites.

Not sure what we do for Friday or Saturday night yet...

Also - how many do we have lined up for a bus?

Possibles:
Bool
Dran
Kharnifex
Swift
AcadiusLost
Loulabelle
Rotku

Anyone else?

Well the thursday ill happily spend watching the cricket. ODI in adelaide that day, and seeing as id be in sydney, it'll be live for you :D

At the least saturday night we will probably spend geeking away with some PnP and just lots of talking like the last time (did i ever mention how enjoyable it was?). Friday night? Meh, we'll work something out.

I am liking the suggested final plan. Mark me down for the bus.

Edit: Oh, toss in Shininghand_Monk as a possible for the bus :D

Yeah, it was hella fun. :)

Ulath the unclean! CHEEEEAAAARRGE!

The only thing was that after we had that break, I think we were too drunk to continue the pen and paper, lol :D

It looks as if no one will be underage either so that opens our options up a bit -- I wonder if there is any nerd conventions or shows on at the time around then, heh heh. (LotR show anyone?)

--

edit- When we're in melbourne, where are we gonna go? I actually live a good 2 hours east of melbourne (in the best of times) so I'll need a place to stay if I'm staying late..

Sounding good!

Booked the tickets today! Saw a special in the paper, and only lasted one day, so had to get in there fast! Anyway, they're not quite in line with the dates above, a few days out either side (good side, not the bad side...).
Arriving in Sydney on the Tuesday, and leaving from Melbourn on the Tuesday - problem with cheap flights, they're fairly limited regarding days...

Is anyone willing to put up with Rotku for a few extra days on both sides? Only really need a bed for the night, at the least - more than happy to spend the days exploring the city and keeping out of the way ;) Never been to Melbourn before, and not to Syndey for many years! If not, that's fine. I'm sure there's enough backpackers places around and about.

Just to let you all know, I have my Resident interview on December 1st. Until I pass that I can't leave the country. Heh. So we aren't booking anything until after that when I have the treasured passport stamp that says Thou mightest leave the country (and more importantly be allowed back in). In addition we've decided to move out of our apartment... gunshots outside your home anyone? :-/ Last straw in a line of shit we've put up with. But anyhow, point is we're breaking our contract so we might get fscked over by the management. Once we know how much money they're going to suck from us, and I get my stamp, we will assess our finances blah blah and book the tickets :-)

Lou you might want to check on the Landlord/Tenant Laws, sounds like you might have "just cause" for canceling the contract.

Update: If it goes ahead, i am officially IN for the bus. Got the money together for my airfares now, and going to book my week and a bit off with work on friday. Not going to book my flights, until i know if the bus is a 100% go or not.

I chatted to Swift about this previously.. but why are we going to Melbourne again?

I suggested it because its a cool town.. but the facts are.. the majority of this group live in Sydney.

The only ALFAns I know who live near Melbourne actually live a reasonable distance /outside/ the city itself..

I'm fine with spending on a hotel (because I'd be doing that in Sydney anyway) but what about the rest of you.. hows accomodation going to work out..?

I dont want to mess with the dates. I'm just enquiring about the prudence of going to Melbourne when there will be no couches to sleep on (although I know some pretty good, private and cheap backpacker hostels in the centre of Melbourne).
