OOC spell graphical effects, should they be removed?

Removing the VFX isn't going to help there. They can see all your buffs in your description anyway.Ronan wrote:After walking into a room full of PCs who will likely try to kill my PC at some point and having them all meta the visual spells on my PC (which included stoneskin), I suddenly feel more strongly about this topicIts really a more important topic to adventuring mages, who need these buffs to survive.

If drow saw nothing but black and white.. then why would they have colorful dancing light orbs all over their city... and what about when they cast faerie fire on things and see a purplish glow... and what about reading on the drow and them noticing colors in narration?

They might only see certain ranges in the frequency spectrum...I have vague recollections about their vision being different too in the Salvatore books, although, that could be nothing more than literary freedom. I don't think I've seen anything about vision (aside from Darkvision) in the PHB or FRCS.Killthorne wrote:......

Thats why its a fantasy game I imagine. Where the imagination is much nicer than trying to make something "real".If drow saw nothing but black and white.. then why would they have colorful dancing light orbs all over their city... and what about when they cast faerie fire on things and see a purplish glow... and what about reading on the drow and them noticing colors in narration?
I was just going off the description of the darkvision spell which states black and white and transfering that to the Drow and Dwarven darkvision ability.
Actually i prefer a world with colorful lights and faerie fires being cast on dark clothed figures in a subterranean environment so that they carry a purplich glow and are therefore able to be seen properly. As for the glowey lights I imagine different color lights give off a different heat signature..As for the drow descriptions of colors without having one in front of me i would imagine that they have there own unique color spectrum within Black and White..Just idears nothing written in stone

But back to what started this offshooot of the OP. Does that effect sight of stoneskin..?
99% certain any nearby light source kills darkvision. If not, it certainly would in my house ;)Vendrin wrote:When it's pitch black they see darkvision thorugh black and white, which can be used in concordance with there normal vision. If they have a light that goes out 30 feet they can see in color in that 30 feet and black and white for the next 30 feet.

Dungeon Master's Guide wrote: THe presence of light does not spoil darkvision. If a character has darkvision with a 60 foot range and he stands within a 20 foot radius of light, the character can see normally in the light and 30 feet beyond the light because of his darkvision.
