NWN2 Toolset Workshops

Post by Thangorn »

I think this is a great idea and I am willing to run with it and start helping organise them.. but first I want to know, apart from the basics like -:

* Building an ALFA base module
* Building a simple wilderness exterior
* Building a simple city exterior
* Building a common interior
* Building a dungeon type area
* Walkmesh secrets
* Making custom items: armour & weapons
* Making custom creatures: monsters & NPCs
* Making a custom merchant
* How to add spawns to an area using alfa's spawning system
* Creature AI workshop
* Scripted conversations
* Making a simple static quest

What do people feel they want to learn about the toolset?

I suggest a different builder organises one every two weeks to run in open toolset and IRC.

So post here if -:
1. You are interested in attending or running a workshop.
2. What you are interested in learning in a workshop.
3. What you would be interested in running in a workshop.

Thanks folks..

I would definitely be interested in attending a workshop.

As for what I would like to learn, basically anything would be of use to me since designing items is basically the only thing I know how to do at the moment.

I will also run a workshop or work with Thangs to put one together and get the best information from differing perspectives.

Either way, I think MShady's idea is a fantastic one. One of the best ideas I've heard in a long time.

I would definitely attend. Being that i'm no pro with NWN2 toolset, i can't state what things would be easiest. I think the 101 course should include training in making content or doing actions that would be immediately useful to the project as a whole and do not require any real skill. Mundane/redundant tasks, basic item creation, dialog scripting, NPC fleshing, book/notes creation, etc.

Also, how to start/open and save the work in a format that could be easily 'added' to the base module(s). In other words, training us up to the point we could be an army of drones. :P

As to the 201 course, no idea.

Great idea!

003 has been created based on the contributions of many builders at all levels of building and will continue to do so. The beta servers I'm sure would appreciate and benefit from community support just as TSM has.

ahh, how to import/export, as in putting models in that we create with 3ds, or 2d models/textures, and such.

I'd sign up for all of them. Also, I agree a YATT workshop would also be very useful, especially to those who are currently working on or even thinking of building new NWN2 servers.

Count me as interested. A good starting point for anyone familiar with the NWN1 toolset would be a side by side comparison of what the differences and similarities are (if any).

There are also some video tutorials I've seen somewhere (BW site?) that could be sprinkled in.

Chamu - you want to teach or participate? I could see you going either way on this :)

Since there is a fair bit of interest, could we get a side forum for this maybe? Open to the public?

That way, we can start posting training materials, like these videos? Or post transcripts or motion caps?

Here's a question though. What is the best way to teach all this? Could we use MSN or a similar chat program that lets attendees watch the host use the system?
