Re: Nostalgia (videogames)
First "Real" computer game, bought on the day we first brought our PC home. Wanted it ever since I saw an ad for it in a "Godzilla" comic book.
Before that it was just Atari 2600/7800 console games, which don't really count.
Awesome game.
Before Fallout, there was:
Another favorite of mine:
Those, and the Text-based Infocom Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy game.

Nick got me on Bard's Tale... that was an old favorite.
Anyone remember the Adventure Construction Set?
And here I first began to develop my addiction to computer-based RPGs:

Ah sentinel worlds...
There's a place I like to hide
A doorway that I run through in the night
Relax child, you were there
But only didn't realize and you were scared
It's a place where you will learn
To face your fears, retrace the years
And ride the whims of your mind

Giving credit where credit's due; one of the most nostalgic games for me is Icewind Dale. I had never heard of D&D, the Forgotten Realms, or even the Lord of the Rings when I came across this game on display at a local computer store back in 2000. Icewind Dale introduced me to it all because shortly thereafter, I happened to notice a book in my high school library with the same logo used on the game (Forgotten Realms) and decided to read it. I owe Icewind Dale a debt of gratitude because without it, I wouldn't be here.
Plus, for a dungeon crawl game, it had a surprisingly engaging story.

The hobbit (1982 - Melbourne house software) was my first (text) RPG:
There were less colors on my Oric Atmos though.
Edit: you have to listen to the song about Bilbo in the first video. It's hilarious. Never heard it.
I also played "l'aigle d'or" (a French adventure game) a lot:

My all times favorite is however Populous (I played it on an Amiga):

Wizard of Wor! Best in multiplayer.
Berserk!
I could play Battlezone forever.
But the one I liked the most:
Star Trek - Strategic Operations Simulator, in the sit down version.
"Welcome aboard captain."

Best PvP ever: Barbarian.
I played it on the Amstrad CPC but it had the same graphics.
Got to love when you cut the head of your opponent and a little goblin came shooting in the head.

Re: Nostalgia (videogames)
The entire Legacy of Kain series was really good, except for Blood Omen II. The later ones made a habit of ending on a cliffhanger, so it'd be neat to see it continued. Don't know if that is possible without Tony Jay, though...
Re: Nostalgia (videogames)
Edit: Oops! I was going to post Sentinel Worlds, but now I see its already mentioned. I'll think of something else to contribute.

There are a handful of games that I can say really had an impact on my life, but none more so than these two. Im not certain, but I have come to believe KOEI means "say goodbye to your girlfriend" in Japanese.
The Sega Genesis version was better, but no clips are available.
Again, Genesis version was superior.

Re: Nostalgia (videogames)
Personally playing this lately:
"The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully." -- Richard Dawkins
