Re: East Coast ALFA Con 2009
Well, monday, May 25th is a holiday for many people. So, we've got options on the timing: could plan saturday/sunday with heading home Monday, or try to get in Friday and leave sunday etc.
If Lou and I drive down (currently the plan), we'd likely not get in till very late friday night/sat AM if we left Friday after work. Driving down saturday we could get there before dinnertime without much trouble.
In the past, we've kind of had one real day of "wandering around town" or whatever planned; the question is whether Saturday or Sunday works best for that. If many of the attendees are going to have to use Sunday to get home for work on Monday, that limits us to Saturday planning. If most of us have Monday off, we can have a more relaxed timing (maybe some early bird can sightsee some on saturday before the rest get there, all meet up for dinner Sat night, then "main event" for Sunday).
So how's it for everyone currently thinking of attending? Free for sunday events?

Re: East Coast ALFA Con 2009
ugh.. you people have no idea how tempting it is for me to come to this.. with my 2 weeks of leave an considering my current job of working in the travel industry and being able to get stupidly cheap flights everywhere... something to ponder indeed.

Re: East Coast ALFA Con 2009
It'd be great to see you again, though I can't vouch for Charlotte, NC as being a tourist destination worthy of the epic plane-trip from Sydney (I've only seen the inside of the airport there, heh). I know Lou and I enjoyed crashing the AUS ALFAcon way back, you're welcome to do the same on this side, could snag a ride back North with Lou and I and see Charlottesville / Washington DC / etc before and/or after if you like. We've got a spare room if you don't mind the whir of TSM's cooling fan in the corner. Might have to juggle your inbound and outbound flights from different airports, but if you're in the business... can't hurt to price it out.

Re: East Coast ALFA Con 2009
OK, so far we've had confirmations from:
AcadiusLost
Loulabelle
Danielmn
Mick
Waiting to hear from:
Curmudgeon
Dmyles
Dran
Riotnrrd
Maxcell
Glassrain
Valn99
I'm recommending the Hyatt Airport / Tyvola Drive as a place to stay, it's where Lou and I have reservations, I believe danielmn intends to book there as well. There is apparently another Hyatt right next door to it that isn't quite as nice, so that's another immediately local option if this one is booked.
http://www.hotels.com/property.do?searc ... &CIMonth=5
At this point, it's still less than $100/night, which isn't bad for a 3-day holiday weekend. We're staying Sat and Sunday night, since we'd have a hard time making it down there by a reasonable hour on Friday after work. If people who are closer want to make Friday night / Sat AM plans, they're welcome to.
Let me know if you're confirmed attending so we can plan/coordinate!

Added to the "confirmed" list: Exodus-ian and prospective ALFAn "Panzeh" (not to be confused with Paazin), who will be driving down from West Virginia.
Also sounds like the Hyatt Airport / Tyvola Rd. is nearly all booked up now, so may I recommend the Doubletree Charlotte Airpot, which is just across the street as best I can tell:

Not much more expensive either, currently.

Re: East Coast ALFA Con 2009
Staying at the Reinaissance on Ja Jones Dr... appears to be less than a mile away. 80$ ... looks pretty nice.
Re: East Coast ALFA Con 2009
How many confirmed do we have?
I was thinking about running a short PnP game Sat night... we did this at the last ALFA Con and it was pretty fun (though we were all pretty trashed by that time).
Would there be any interest in a short 2-4 hour game sometime Sat night, or would it be best to reserve this time for general debauchery? I can have all the PCs prerolled and ready to go

It doesn't look like I'll be able to make it - too much home stuff to get caught up on. I'll hoist one thinking of you guys, though.

Breaking news!
Maxcell and Ms. Maxcell are IN! Will be carpooling the VA -> NC leg of the journey with Lou and I, arriving in the (early?) afternoon Saturday, departing monday AM.
Riot: Do I take that to mean you are volunteering to DM this unruly lot?
Also: 4.5 days and counting down!

Hello!
I'm afraid I won't be able to make it.
Got to admint I kinda forgot about it, but also I'm still taken by the same damned project and I doubt that they'd let me take some time off right now considering how the project is going.
Also, wedon't have that nifty American holiday over here.
So... best thing I can hope for is to check out whatever pictures you deign to post.
Have fun!!!

Re: East Coast ALFA Con 2009
Should I bring fencing gear for several? Crash course in finesse swordfighting in the hotel parking lot/nearby park?
If we play PnP D&D, are we using 3.5E rules, or are you proposing to indoctrinate us into the hideous 4E rules we're rightly oblivious of?
Lazer tag, what?
Lou votes for the "History of flight/air museum" maybe for Sunday.
