Looking over the haks suggested thus far I have this to say ...

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF LOLTH GIVE US NEW HEADS AND HAIR!!!!

Pretty please? With spiders on top?

*makes cute pouty face*

The stock heads and hair in NWN2 are .. um .. hideous. There are some decent options out there (I would love, for example, the hair and face from the "Tintable Moire's Head" in the list by furtivefigure). We really do desperately need some new heads and hair, especially for the females. Some of the men look alright, but ... there is not an elf head or hair combo that is anything less than fugly. And some of us are supposed to be pretty. Its hard RPing "pretty" when your avatar looks like ... well ... I don't have words. I don't know what they look like. Poop on legs I guess. Hmmph.

So, please, when the time and resources are there, I would ask, nay BEG, for new head and hair options. Thank you.

This has been a public service announcement from the local Beauty, Intelligence and Talent Community Herald (B.I.T.C.H.), bringing you the best whining imaginable for the betterment of ALFA.

I'm not a drow player but I would fully support Myk's request; the drow heads are so bad they are actually funny; I mean I want to laugh when I see them. I do NOT want to laugh when I see drow in ALFA; that's just wrong.

Surface elves aren't far behind in the uglification department, aside from about two heads that are passable. NWN1 elven/drow heads were far better aestheticly. Obsidian turned the fair folk into the fugly folk.

If its any consolation half-elves are even fuglier. Frankly, the only really good looking head models are on the NPCs

Re: Extra heads/hair:

We'll definitely be adding some with the 1.23 patch, which allows them to be previewed and selected during the character creation process. The ones I'm testing currently with the 1.23 Beta testing are "best of" selections harvested from various Vault packs by Kest.

Without the 1.23 benefit of haks loading before character creation, the extra heads/hair are technically difficult to get on a PC (similar to the measures we'd had to use in NWN1-ALFA). As such (and because of the second reason listed below), I'm not too enthused to try to support them before the 1.23 patch.

Second issue: the extra heads on the vault are, in most cases, little better than the ones that shipped with NWN2. More options, sure, but most I've looked at look considerably less professional/more cartoonish. There are ways to unlock the NPC heads for PCs, but they have their own problems, such as being incompatible with any sort of headwear (which for us includes glasses, hooded cloaks, etc). You could wear such things, but they'd be invisible/undetectable, which is kind of lousy for an RP PW. If the NPC heads are something many people want, someone can start a thread here and get some support registered for them. Unfortunately, even with patch 1.23, heads don't have associated text information like feats and skills, so there will still be no way to tell members rolling up a PC which heads "work" with helms/hats, and which don't. That's another reason to stick with a set that functions consistently, in my opinion.

AL

As usual your comments make much sense. NPC heads that basically are incompatible with other features doesn't seem desirable. I played very briefly on a PW called Dragoncoast:Shores of Haldun that had nice hair options as I recall. I'll try to find out what haks they use and post.

This is true. Most of the head packs on NWVault come in three hideous varieties -
  • Goth/Tattooed (1) (2) (3) (4) (5) (6) (7)
  • Anime/MMO, though some of these aren't so bad (1)
  • "Beauty" packs made of strong cheekbones, strange eyes, and garish makeup. (1) (2) (3)

More of a question really

Has anyone seen anything like the "vfx" patch we had in alfa1?
The one where we had swords in scabbards at our sides, warhammers at our belts, greatswords strapped over the back, bows accross shouders etc etc

I've had a look and i see some KINDA similar things but not a complete. Anyone?

As far as I know, these have not been developed by anyone yet. The closest I've seen is/was some of the headwear done up as VFX rather than equipment models (glasses, eyepatches, face-covering bandanas). These were pretty buggy though, for example you'd see the glasses from some camera angles and zoom levels, but not from others, strange stuff.

What we do have are "static" equipment armor pieces: quivers, empty or full scabbards on either side (one model only), across the shoulder knife-belt, and a Shield/bow/sword combination for a PC's back. Unfortunately these are armor piece/backpack models, so they can't (currently) be changed dynamically.

For all Drows out there :P

Matron Voiceset?

And the tile that was never finished but it is usable as it is, we would just need to figure out how to import it to the latest patch. Awesome awesome stuff for the drowish server ;) in the works.

Area converter? I think it could help the builders of the new underdark server maybe others ;)

Tileset. Huge cave tileset is awesome, with the ceiling of the caves much higher then the regular ones this could help our builders when it comes to make new caves.

Tintable dragons. It overrides the current red but the reds can be retinted nicely to red with this hak, or to any other color. Although the model shape itself remains red, the colors achievable here make any type of dragon available. Pretty please.
Enjoy the game
