A bard's life is a hard one

Post by Melody »

A performer's life is a hard one,
When your purse is as flat as the floor.
You can sing, you can dance,
and hope there's a chance
that you won't be thrown out the door.

Oh, a performer's life is a tough one,
When your stomach does growl like a beast,
but unwatered ale is the coin from your tale
though you'd rather have eaten a feast.

A performer's life is a rough one,
When times all around us are hard
When tunes are your trade, you're sadly unpaid
Cause there's no one as poor as a bard.

Faedra looked out over the crowd in the inn and shared a smile with the scarred Rashemi named Tars who was sitting beside her at the bar. She took her much used and well cared for lute from beside her and brushed her fingers against the strings, tuning it quickly and with practiced ease. The sounds in the inn died down a bit from the general murmer to something aproaching quiet.

A raven haired ranger one evening was bathing
alone in a still forrest pool.
When along stole a goblin, nimble and quiet
his pointy teeth slavering drool.

Ah for the maiden so lovely and buxom,
the goblin became quite enamored.
So grabbing her clothes he quickly arose
and into the underbrush scampered.

There was quite a cry as she saw him run by
with her knickers clasp't tight in his hand.
Her loud angry screams brought a figment from dreams
a satuesque red armored man.

And by man, I mean hin, but before I begin
his qualities too numerous to speak.
With a quick flashing smile, he paused for a while
to kiss the distraught maiden's cheek.

"Fear naught lady ranger, I'll save you from danger
and rescue your clothing besides."
And then he set forth on unwavering course
with sure step and a lengthening stride.

And as for the nave, he holed up in a cave
along with his ill gotten spoils.
He laughed and he schemed, then sleeping he dreamed
of the victim of his larcenous toils.

The cave was quite dank and the floor of it stank
with liquids best left undescribed.
The hin gave a yell, the goblin to tell
that his moment of death had arrived.

"Give forth with her clothes!" The goblin arose
and replied in part with a sneer
"Try my skill I don't mind, the only thing that you'll find
is your death if you must interefere."

His short sword unsheathed, our hero unleashed
an attack on the villanous foe.
The bright sword gleamed, the goblin then screamed
as a pool of scarlet then flowed.

Brave hero descended.. the goblin upended
our hin then returned to the glade.
He flourished a bow, and told the maid how..

Faedra quirks a grin at Tars and silences the lute for a moment to look out over her audience with twinkling eyes.

he figured he aught to get paid.

Laughing she finishes the tune and ends with a bow.

Faedra sits beside the fireplace in the Rivermoot Inn with a mug of warm cider in her hands. The firelight throws gold highlights in her fair hair as she sits listening to the wind howling outside. She shivers a little and puts her mug by her chair before drawing out her lute and beginning a song.

Auril comes singing tho' nobody hears her.
Her breath blowing frosty on flower and tree.
Leaves turn from verdant to umber and golden,
then curling and browned at last they fly free.

Snowflakes fall softly cloaking all imperfections,
glistening white lace like a dress at a ball.
Cheeks bright and rosey, breath softly pluming,
winter's embrace has come to us all.

Lathander comes smiling, tho' nobody sees him.
The sun's gentle warmth on snowbank and tree.
Snow turns to water, and soon sleeping flowers
unfurl in the dawn for the whole world to see.

The world slowly quickens from the slumber of winter.
Creatures stir forth from their dens and their nest.
Buds form and lovers write amourous love songs,
proclaiming the spring and their love as the best.

Chauntea comes walking tho' nobody feels her.
In her steps the wheat ripens, and fields full of grain.
They wave soft and golden, a bountiful harvest.
Fed early on by the soft springtime rain.

The warm summer days and nights last forever,
but even forever must come to an end.
When harvest time comes, the cold wind is blowing,
and Auril has come to the land once again.

My lover's eyes a beauty sees,
and thus it becomes the truth.
Clearest emerald, forrest green
they give to me the proof.

Arms to hold me strong and sure,
I'm sheltered from the storm.
So while the wind blows wild and fierce,
I've him to keep me warm.

Tacked onto the tavern walls in the Silver Marches near other such notes left for those who read them is a paper with a song written on it. It appears to have been torn out of a book since one of the edges is jagged. The handwriting is neat and legible common.

If shadows you are bound to fight,
best do so in bright sunlight.
For sunlight reveals what tries to hide,
and hurts their sensitive undead eyes.
Silver not a mark will make,
enchanted weapons instead you take,
if not enchanted then scroll to use.
Unless you wish your life to loose.
Armor of cloth or hardest steel,
shadows bypass incorporeal.
Mage's armor is best to use,
as magical force they can't break through.
Protect versus evil, for they are such
evil that drains you with a touch.
Spells that do affect the mind,
have no effect that we can find.
All who fight must these obey,
or with your life you'll likely pay.

Under the song something else is written in the same hand.

PS. Disrupt dead also works.

Please don't smile at me today.
Just turn your head away.
My fingers fumble on the strings,
and I don't know what to say.

My eyes are full of unshead tears,
making it very hard to see.
So if I turn away from you,
I hope you won't blame me.

The words all die upon my lips,
like roses on the vine.
And if you ask me how I am
I'll lie and say I'm fine.

But if you listen close enough,
you can hear my poor heart break.
So please don't smile at me today,
a smile's too hard to fake.

Dance with me
Amid this sea
Of drunkeness and crockery
Of empty mugs and revelry
Dance with me

Dance with me
Spin me in your arms tonight
Hold me closer, clasp me tight
Sway with me by candle light
Dance with me

Dance with me
In your arms I feel so free
Moving to this melody
No other place I'd rather be
Dance with me

Dance with me
Make me forget my every care
Leth the others stop and stare
We won't notice that they're there
Dance with me
