I confess I've been killing stuff on ALFA's Pacific server and taking tuna ears, leaving the rest of their fishy loot.

Might have another look at the metaphor? I don't claim that tuna don't exist. I claim that the fish in the ocean come in all sizes, and that while every instance of a loot bag discovered unlooted (especially if those goblins the speaker was there to kill had been pre-killed!) seems to merit this noisy "Damn those lazy farmers!" response, it's a poor representation of the overall circumstance.

Re: If you're just going to run..
Hah, I thought ear-harvesting had been removed as the reward was getting way out of hand. Maybe at least it's subject to the "repeatables" or "too high a level for this CR of quest" type mechanisms introduced a couple haks back. Though I guess the gold would always flow. I think the goblins historically drop more loot than anything else I've seen in BG, sure it's low value items, but you end up with a mountain of them. So many apparently that people maybe just pick an ear and leave the rest? I guess.

I actually very seldom see any spawns other than animals in my walks through the Cloakwood, goblins or otherwise. Not sure why that is. Was all excited to spot a hag a couple of weeks ago but the rest of the group wasn't in the mood so we ignored her.

No animals (or other goblin-killers) should spawn inside the CW cave. More generally I don't see anything wrong with the logic presented here. Seeing more evidence of lazy-farming is cause to be more confident in the existence of lazy-farming, just as an increase in the size of caught fish in a pond is evidence that the size of the pond's fish is increasing (and ALFA's certainly no ocean). The disagreement seems to be over priors and magnitudes.
Looping through area contents used to be very slow, and this fact affected the design of our spawn system. However in NWN2 looping through area contents is much faster, to the point where I doubt this is causing a noticeable drop in performance. That said, BG definitely experiences a serious degradation in performance and an increase in memory usage the longer its running. We could loop through all module objects and generate a report to see if the problem is an "object leak", but I haven't gotten around to that.
If you guys think something farmy is going on I'll check the logs at some point, maybe. To be honest I'm unfamiliar with most of BG's statics and would be happy to change their rewards if I was given some clear instructions on how. I doubt paazin is terribly attached to the reward structure either, but I don't think either of us have had the time to analyze gains from these statics. I think the goblin ears were put in place by Sand? Edit: Are they gone, as BB says?

Re: If you're just going to run..
I killed a dozen goblins or so a day ago, or was it two?
either way, they still dropped ears.
But the same as with all BG static contant rewards have been reduced.

Re: If you're just going to run..
The problem isn't goblin ears, it's just laziness.
I don't care about people killing goblins. Hell, alfa needs a bit more static repeatable content to keep the new generation preoccupied or they'll adhd out the Window.

Re: If you're just going to run..
I'm with Boom. I could care less about Heero or anyone else killing goblins or doing statics. It was the littering and lag that I was concerned about.
Re: If you're just going to run..
I did it specifically to lag the server. Do you know why I wanted to lag the server? Spite.
