Do not use a pirated copy. The game is dirt cheap.

There will be DnD bundle sales here and there (NWN2,NWN1,BG,TOEE) if your patient.

Most likely the bankrupt ATARI. You will also be helping out GOG. (CD Projekt) A company believe it or not likes it customers.JonnyJerny wrote:Who exactly am I supporting buying a decade old game thats unsupported by the developers as of right now

Every IRC client worth its salt keeps logs, you know.HEEGZ wrote:I'm not sure what is going on with the "tech support" side-conversation. I spoke to Zelk for an hour or so last week about the NWN1 haks. Outside of that, it's already been agreed that we won't be bothering her or any other tech team members for support for NWN1. This is pretty much a non-issue, and some of the stuff being posted is baffling.
You asked about the state of the haks and correct implementation of the haks, module versions, hosting and file distribution, the files needed to host a NWN1 server, the viability of the CEP for this project, the effort required to bring new NWN1 servers to live, the file structure of a NWN install, ALFA1's handling of persistency, and specs for hosting-- with the list more or less sorted by how much time each topic occupied.
Though, sure, if the last few days are representative, it's indeed solved going forward. I would, however, prefer that we not try to pretend those conversations didn't happen; I had to stop doing other things to field those questions.

Re: NWN1 ALFA Servers
That's cool and all and I certainly do have $10, but a cracked copy is also, free. "Morals" (As if only abysmally moral-stanced people pirate video games) aside, $0 is less than $10. I don't think I'm a selfish prick for insisting on getting a cracked, free copy on a video game if it can serve the same purpose as a paid copy. I respect your stance on "supporting the developer", and I understand that if the majority of players have the same point of view as me, the video game industry surely would fall apart, but that's the beauty. The majority of players don't have the same point of view as me.Electryc wrote:http://www.gog.com/game/neverwinter_nig ... nd_editionSwift wrote:Do not use a pirated copy. The game is dirt cheap.

With all that said, "it's dirt cheap" is still not a convincing argument for me shelling money for a collection I might not particularly enjoy. So I'll ask again, would a pirated copy of NWN1, considering that GameSpy is down, be able to connect to the multiplayer servers?

Re: NWN1 ALFA Servers
Technically yes, depending on whether or not we do any key checking ourselves. I do not recall if we did or not. I do remember needing your public key to be on your profile once upon a time.
I would hope, however, that we would ban anyone using a cracked copy from accessing the server. With how easily games are obtained these days, there is virtually no excuse to pirate, particularly when the price is so low.
Services like Steam and GoG have got it right. Piracy is a service problem, so they make it as easy as they can for gamers. Do the right thing and support the services that are (mostly) doing the right thing for gamers.
I would say again, do not use a cracked copy. It is not welcome here.

Nice. Thanks.
And I'll be hoping for the opposite. I can't wait to play with you Swift~~~~~I would hope, however, that we would ban anyone using a cracked copy from accessing the server.

At least he's honest about being a cheapskate lawbreaker who's advertising his crime publicly.
More seriously, I believe the default policy on most sensible gaming communities is to discourage public discussions of piracy as viable alternatives on their forums because of potential legal issues/ramifications for said community.
So no Jern, don't do it, if for that reason alone.

Re: NWN1 ALFA Servers
? Don't give me that "You wouldn't steal a car" bullshit please because you know you don't follow the same procedure in stealing a car when you pirate a movie or video game.
I mean I guess its a miracle I'm not shoplifting in grocery stores and robbing banks
I'm also well aware of discussion of warez is frowned upon on forums
Is there a superiority complex for people that spend money or something

Re: NWN1 ALFA Servers
Alfa can't be seen to promote "theft" ie piracy. Using without paying.
A copy of nwn1 without registered cdkey may very well connect and be playable with the upcoming servers(s). Having said that Alfa in no way condones piracy and suggests you do not do this.
I suggest you go troll another thread, and stop derailing this one, off topic if you insist on doing it within alfa.

ALFA doesn't support theft. Please take that discussion elsewhere. Future comments about pirating in this thread will be deleted.
Re: NWN1 ALFA Servers
You'd have to quiz Hialmar for the details, but I'm pretty sure you'd need a unique and valid NWN 1 CD key to connect to the servers we'll host precisely because of the Master Authentication Server being non-functional.
That said, even if it were possible... ALFA is not a forum to ask or give advice about software piracy. You may debate the general moral implications and philosophical stances in off-topic, but this is not a warez site.
Cheers,

So do we still have IWD/TFN flying around somewhere? I'm kind of looking for the module.
