Greengrass 2015
So we didn't do a Greengrass celebration last year, because we suck.
And nobody's claimed anything from the event, so I'm going to try to organize it (also, my character would try to organize something). Canonically, Greengrass is a special extra day between the 4th and 5th month of the year; here in the real world, we'd probably be aiming for a week-long thing (starting April 26th-ish and ending May 2nd-ish, with those possibly shifting a day depending on what events we have)
I'm interested in what events people would be keen on having at this year's Greengrass. We usually have a couple of standbys (archery, wrestling, tourney), a couple of obviously-not-regulated just-for-fun events (like pie eating), something artsy (songs or poetry). If people would still participate in those, I can get something going.
I'm also keen on coding up some regular sport for ALFAns-- it would obviously need to be appropriate to the technology level, so I'm thinking stoolball (it's like an older less-regulated version of cricket -- in NWN2, I assume this would be hilarious)
Not sure if any BG DMs would be involved here; Rumple had said he'd be super keen on it, but I believe that Rumple's PC is on fire. Or being held hostage by extremist flightless birds making insane demands. New Zealand is weird. Still, I can run most of this without DM help-- and "Demon Gnolls III: Live Free or Gnoll Demonically" has supplied some prizes that I can pass out for some of these events.
So rambles aside--
Who's free and would participate in the last week of April/first week of May, what events are folk interested in participating in, and are there events we'd like to see that I didn't mention?

Pie eating contest ftw.
Nonlethal swordfighting/fencing?
I don't think ALFA's done a mage dual (Magic of Faerun covers the how to's of nonlethal spell duals in detail iirc) yet?
Something inspired by the Great Gazib and the Amazing Oopah?

If there's prizes, Zyrus is interested in Greengrass. This time he has a whole privateer/cargo crew to come along as well.
First Character: Zyrus Meynolt, the serene Water Genasi berserker. "I am the embodiment of the oceans; serene until you summon the storm." Zyrus: http://tinyurl.com/9emdbnd
Second Character: Damien Collins, the atypical druid. "What? Being a stick in the mud is boring. No pun intended grins"

Re: Greengrass 2015
Blimey... OK, few points to make sure that we're on the same page.
I said prizes, but I should note that nothing is worth more than a couple thousand gold (not pizza; no tomatoes. But potentially pizzaz); if you're only in it for the loot, go kill goblins. It'll pay better.
The setting would be Ruqel (that'd be the settlement on the Way of the Lion); Nashkel is too far south and hates elves; also, Teresa wouldn't have to negotiate permits to run anything in Ruqel (or if she does, it's a very short conversation: "Hey head-of-state Teresa, can I do the thing here?" "Yes, party-organizer Teresa, you can. *signs*").
I might be able to cook something up for mage duels. I know we did some PC-tool-dice stuff a couple years back, but I could probably make this go with some umpf and sparkle that'd be worth being a spectator for. If that sounds more fun than regular sports, I might put the priority there.
A tourney is of course nonlethal sword fighting, so that base is covered.
Rhaggot can surely show up and eat bunches of pies, but they will probably be dessert pies full of fruit. Or cream.

Pie eating contest is a must. I WILL rig it this time!
Actually I won't - Layla's isn't getting within a mile of Ruqel. If it was in the Moonshaes, like in 2013, I'd be all over it, but not going near the Moon-Vatican.

pragmatic (adj.)
The opposite of idealistic is pragmatic, a word that describes a philosophy of "doing what works best."
From Greek pragma "deed," the word has historically described philosophers and politicians who were
concerned more with real-world application of ideas than with abstract notions. A pragmatic person
is sensible, grounded, and practical.

I have to agree with this sentiment. Zyrus has only heard rumors of this place called Ruqel, but has heard Persephone (now calling herself Teresa) is based in or nearby it, so he's avoiding the area or only traveling through. He's not all that interested in being gated by the resident Selune Champion.Mikayla wrote:Actually I won't - Layla's isn't getting within a mile of Ruqel. Re: Greengrass 2015
ruh roh, controversy!
I'm guessing if it's based in Ruquel Theresa might not approve of a 'Something inspired by the Great Gazib and the Amazing Oopah' sort of thing.
I'd totally forgotten the mage dual from 2013; I now vaguely remember Aislinn winning with a rope trick.

Would be very fun to see some neato umpf and sparkle coded in, though the sports thing sounds entertaining as well? Choices, choices.I might be able to cook something up for mage duels. Re: Greengrass 2015
Pfft, just because there's a bunch of high-level good guys and a paladin order there? Pffffffffffffft.Mikayla wrote:Actually I won't - Layla's isn't getting within a mile of Ruqel. If it was in the Moonshaes, like in 2013, I'd be all over it, but not going near the Moon-Vatican.
Of course, people who show up peaceably can expect to be treated in kind. The Selûnites enforce the usual laws for western folk, minus anything gendered (because girl power!), minus the usual breeds of legislative corruption (because paladins!), and plus plenty of divination (because Selûne!). Don't take anything that isn't yours; don't hurt anyone; don't bring slaves/undead/fiends as your +1. Layla might not think that's enough, which is fine and you should play your character how you're happiest. I mostly don't want to exclude people and want to make sure that folk can participate unmolested if they wish.
This isn't really a new thing-- Teresa learned her real name about four years ago. This was so long ago that JaydeMoon DMed it.Persephone (now calling herself Teresa)
Though sure, if folk are still confused about this. The character was rolled as "Persephone," but she's been using Teresa for basically forever now. There can't be a high DC on that knowledge check-- "Moon Pope"/ "Moon Vatican" is probably an accurate description since Naneatha Suaril died.
