ALFA 01--Waterdeep/Skullport/Undermountain

Post by Rick7475 »

Since no one is stepping up to the plate, the DF team will lead in the creation of the 'Jewel' of ALFA.

We will not be doing Daggerford except as a possiblity later on to add to the southern area (as Xerxes did with the SM) pending approval of the Admin at a future date.

I will make the proposal and be the chief builder for all the external areas of WD, walls, streets, and other geography. It will include an extensive carriage/cart intercity transit system, street names, city watch, and robust Footguards including all patrols.

angel_caller will be doing the evil underground stuff, including placing of the dreaded city thugs in the docks areas :)

Naturally, we will be adding team members for Undermountain, Skullport, and other canon areas such as the sewers, pending a hopeful tileset.

This will not be a first line server.

More to follow.

The statement above comes across as absolute in that you're only looking to add builders interested in those particular areas. This is totally different geography than WD proper and perhaps why others, including members of the current WD team, have not offered to assist. Perhaps you will provide more clarity in your follow up post.

Incidentally Rick, based on the general setup you outlined above, it will surely take you an awfully long time to build all the wards of WD on your own using a scale anywhere close to canon. Is it in fact your intention to build all the wards on your own or did you merely list the responsibilities based on your current team make up?

In the interests of ALFA, I'd be remiss if I didn't at least suggest to you to perhaps consider breaking up the project by wards to allow room for others to help. Each ward itself has a distinctly unique feel to it so if your justification for this division of labor is centered around artistic consistency across areas, this is a logical boundary where a change will exist regardless and where you can get help from other builders to bring WD online sooner. As an advocate for WD, I'd prefer to see collaboration here rather than competition.

It's your proposal and you can obviously propose whatever you want, so I apologize if this post comes across in any way other than well intentioned.

Waterdeep consists of the city, the sewers, Undermountain, Skull Port, etc, lots of other areas. Obviously I do not intent to build everything alone. I hope to attract builders for SkullPort and Undermountain, perhaps the sewers, COD, and perhaps individual ward, etc.

I have worked on the ALFA1 WD mod and used it as a guide for developing DF. So I know the design well.

I have a map and I plan on building the exoskeleton of the city, streets, main arteries, the Watch patrols, etc, all externals. However, buildings, styles, etc, I was hoping to have help with, such as the 'flavors' of each ward. But the overall infrastructure must be laid down first.

If there is an area someone is interested in, and it is agreeable with my vision of the canon, then we can negotiate adding them to the team.

But I don't plan to build this as a starting server.

If that is your desire, Cipher, then perhaps my proposal will be different then yours, otherwise, I'd be happy to here about your ideas :)

Wish you shot one of us a PM before you've gone though all this trouble Rick. We've been planning for a few months to take over the construction of WD come NWN2. We've pretty much decided to break it down into 'wards' and assign different wards to those who care to build it.

We are starting with a basic grid setup and working from there. Sorce book provides a pretty detailed layout, also we have Indo's work to guide us (which he said he won't be helping us.. he's bussy playing with elves  )

As far as UM and SP, joining them would be ideal, but it would be to early to tell if its going to be so. I'll need to sit down with Mord and see what his teams current plans are and if they want to go this route. If they prefer to have an independant mod then that's there call.

If you and angel wish to aid us we'll be happy to accept all the help we can get. But again I wish you shot us a PM before you laid ownership to this rebuild since we've been planning on doing it for quite some time now.

LP then you need to make your own seperate proposal. If you dont make one you probably arent going to get WD are you?

Actually, Indio did just this very thing quite quickly in NWN. He built the exterior infrastructure for the entire city by himself, pretty much.

But, yes.. collaborative effort is preferable. All else fails, dibs should go to the current team. Cheers.

Well ... all I can say is that I would have sent PM's off had I known. Xerxes quit and what I got from the boards was some folks were interested but no one was taking the lead.

So I stepped up because I can't see Daggerford w/o WD.

So, if you want to put a proposal here LP, I don't mind stepping back and doing DF and the WH.

BTW, I am amused that some folk think I can't do the externals of WD by myself

Any news on who is taking this project and if the Daggerford proposal is active again?

I believe LP is taking on WD, which would put us back with DF. Just waiting on his confirmation.

Well, we are going to go back with Daggerford unless LP drops WD, then we will decide.

He is and as such, I contacted Rick a few weeks ago to see if he was interested in teaming up on the proposal and build effort. I put together an initial proposal some time ago, but before I post anything, I want Rick and his team to review it and see if we have common ground. I don't have the time at the moment to say any more but feel free to inquire if you're the curious sort.
