ABR w/ walkmesh helper placeables?

Post by Thangorn »

hey folks,

It seems I have a need to use walkmesh helper placeables in Zhentil Keep on account of the massive amount of placeables and sloping streets and whatnot messing with the walkmesh when baked.

the walkmesh helper placeables on Nwvault seem to solve my problems but they require a 2da fix.. the 2da lines for the new placeables are at 2001 and 2002..

is this going to mess with the ABR 2da file and stop them working?

I dont want to go ahead and use them until I have an idea of whether they'll work on not.

Thanks in advance.. heres a link to the content http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=NW ... tail&id=27

Nope, it's not a problem. The 2da lines are padded (reserved) up to line 2000 so they've added the new lines for the new placeable models in the correct place. But, there's only enough room reserved by OE to add about 70 or so placeables before conflicts will occur.

Everyone think that's enough? It doesn't seem nearly enough to me. We could pad up another 100 lines or more in the 2da to be safe. Does anyone recall roughly how many new placeables Bioware added over time with their expansions? If we end up having to bump a 2da record down some lines at a later time, it'll mean everyone has to readjust the affected blueprints and update all the instances in their mods (blueprint models in the toolset are referenced by the row number of the respective 2da).

In other words, it's a headache we would do well to avoid. So I'd rather overshoot with padding than undershoot. Maybe another 1000 lines, if the engine doesn't impose any limits on placeables.2da.

Opinions and thoughts welcome. You guys will be the ones affected after all so don't be afraid to speak up now.

Looking at NWN1, there were only 496 placeables through HotU and only 200 shipped originally with the game. NWN2 has nearly 2,000 out of the box. So it's hard to draw much from that comparison.

Let's play it safe w/o going over board. Reserve up to line 2,250.
