Malar is the other god involved and the game they played was a game of chance, Jergal proposed that they solve this problem by bowling skulls of his liches, then when that didnt work a game of knuckle bones. i know Malar was tricked out of it by having to fetch the skulls after the game was over then was denied a chance to "prove himself" worthy of a part of the portfolio

although malar wasn't tricked, he was late and chased after the skulls to stop them before there was a result. when he returned the decision had already been made.
