Available Animal Companions

So, i've scoured the forums and the website in general looking for a list of available animal companions. From what I can see, the standard NWN2 list is woefully small and, honestly, quite OOC for my hin ranger (ie, all selectable animals are gigantic compared to him). I was wondering, mainly, if ALFA's gotten any worthwhile companion add-ons with the hak updates. I know there were a ton in NWN1.
I basically looking for a riding dog. I'm excited about rideable mounts coming out for NWN2 (they were great in NWN1, buggy though they were) and getting a rideable dog as a companion would be too perfect for my character concept. Barring that, having a dog period would be ideal. I'd hate to have to RP the scary wolf as an oversized german shepherd :/
Anyway, if anyone can point me to a post that lists animal companions selectable in ALFA, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Embrace the size differential.

Unfortunately, the list is the same as NWN2: badger, brown bear, wolf, spider, bear, panther or boar.

Actually... the wolf is not scary at all. He's quite cute... smaller size and a nice neutral grey.
YAY for TEAM NATURE!!

We have two nice models: German Shepard and a Mastiff for a riding doggie. After that it would be a matter of making a new animal companion, adding it to the list of companions via the haks, then asking a tech to switch yours to that.
Cyphre's Animal Companions pack has a lot of those but I don't think all of them are Alfa compliant.

Animal Companion (Ex)
A druid may begin play with an animal companion selected from the following list: badger, camel, dire rat, dog, riding dog, eagle, hawk, horse (light or heavy), owl, pony, snake (Small or Medium viper), or wolf. If the campaign takes place wholly or partly in an aquatic environment, the following creatures are also available: porpoise, Medium shark, and squid. This animal is a loyal companion that accompanies the druid on her adventures as appropriate for its kind.

Well assuming I make it to lvl4 before we implement new companions - is there a tech staffer around to answer the question of how difficult it would be to switch out a wolf for a dog later on?
although, riding around on a wolf might be fun.....

hehe, Id not count on actually 'riding' the critter ever, unless yer just RPing it of course. Still, I kind of agree with you on the animal companion choices and wish there were a few of the other canon choices to choose from.

Delevel and then relevel again with the chosen animal?
(ah sorry to bring this back, was reading across the forums

)

You have to delevel, level as another class that has an animal companion so that you can pick a new one, delevel again, then level back up as your class. I think.

To switch companions, you can just levelup as another class that has companion (druid or cleric with animal domain), switch companion, and then de-level back. Nothing has changed except companion type and name.
And to pick a nit, if you want a halfling to ride the dog, it'd better be a huge dog. Think of the size differential between a human and a horse (mount is min 4 times in weight). Of course, I suppose you could wave your hands at a magical mount.
In making new Companions, suppose making the level advancement scheme is the most problematic thing.

pretty easy using wolf as dog in my mind
tho I agree with Ice, just a regular dog/wolf is a bit small for a hin to on.
a hin would weigh about 80 lbs....
a great dane would weigh about 200 lbs, which is a bit small to carry a hin.
so you would need a very very big dog for you to be able to rid on.
(or just go boar and ride that. (:
avarage 110-200 lbs but recorded up to 600 and more)

The average dungeons and dragons "dog" is small. If you want to ride a dog, you need a riding dog which is medium

Any small creature can ride a wolf, as a wolf is medium size base. It might not make 100% sense, but that is how dungeons and dragons goes.

Na. its fine.
all I say is you better RP it as a big ass wolf or it would be ludicrous.

But are there really any plans for new companions anyway?

I know of one wolf that has more HP than most armored fighters. He could pull a cart full of people if asked nicely. Also if goblins ride wolves....(I know they are a model unit but we have people! Yet no rideable horses from RWS.)
Still WANT:
