I went cross eyed looking for something in the forums about combining items..

Could someone please take all the things that have been approved and put in one place??? I know its a lot to ask but come on.. Pleeezze?

Anyway My question that I cannpt seem to fin is a price guide for combining items.. say a I have 2 different sets of gloves.. one set gives me +1 to open locks and the other set gives me +2 to Disable Device.. How much would it cost to have a mage take two items and make one?

You can't have items merged magically like that.

The best way to do it would be to sell one item, then use that money to fund towards putting the bonus from it on your existing item.

They are all in one place-- we've an official pricing document, which is the final source on all things gear.

Ronan converted it to a Drupal page earlier this year, in fact.

Per SSM, yeah.

Merge is a no.

Upgrade is a yes.

Upgrades are kind of "new value - old value", though how that falls out in terms of what a given PC would be charged, all over to the PC or NPC who is making an item.

How you'd pay for that with a character, up to you... including having a garage sale of old items.

Ok.. thanks for the info.. Makes sense to just get rid of both items and by one that covers them both.

I had just thought if I found another item of the same type maybe they could be made into one. :D

Well, "upgrading" the higher-value item still tends to work out better cost-wise than selling both (at 50% max buyback) and buying a pricey dual-function item at 100% plus markup... you just don't get any discount on the upgrade cost from having another item with the desired enchantment.

RP-wise though, if contracting the upgrade through an NPC or PC crafter, they might be willing to take the second item as part-payment and/or example template to work from in making the desired changes to your item. More IC to hand them both over and ask for the powers to be merged, than to try to IC'ly talk specific pluses/DMG features.

*nod* What AL said. you dont need to get rid of both.

You can sell the +1 gloves and have a crafter add the same +1 to the +2 gloves.

Would save some coin rather than selling both and making one completely new.

You could also make a +2 into a +3 etc. as BB explained.

Just wear one glove from each set.

If you don't have any boots, you can polymorph into a monkey and wear the second set on your feet.

Also note that it's cheaper to have 2 separate items, as there is a 50% Secondary penalty assessed against the lesser-valued ability(s) when an object has 2 or more different powers.

Funny this comes up now since Hully has been IC asking around about finding a wizard to sew two cloaks together.

I think the confusion comes from after traveling every server recently and looking at every seller of items i could find......well prices range from 500gp to 3,000gp for a items of simular properties.
items that added +1 to a stat range from under 1k to just shy of 4k.
+1 weapon can be a difference of 1k depending on weapon and where you get it.
+ to skill items are so chaotic on prices
I figure some items slip buy the tool set, some are older items that have not been changed due to changes in pricing since they was implemented, and some may be due to dm putting in a helping hand toward a class or race.

Some merchants are jerks and schemers-- and some magic items also have mundane value. That pearl attached to the brim of your hat is worth money independent of the magic on it.

And some similar properties on different item types do indeed cost extra: +1 AC on a ring is 2k minimum; +1 AC on robes is 1k minimum; +1 strength on gloves is 1k minimum; +1 strength on an ioun stone is 2k minimum.

OOC Dergon knows that there's no item fusing in 3.5 crafting rules.

Non-arcane Hully IC figures just finding some wizard to "do whatever it is he does" and blend the two together sounds like an awesome idea.
