Legal counsel wanted

Post by Rumple C »

Hi,

Would any RL lawyers (or students of Law) who have a little time to help out please get in touch via PM?

Re: Charter, Pillars, Rulebook interpretation.

Thankyou kindly.

Using a charter written by lawyers sometimes needs a lawyer to properly interpret :D

This lawyer wishes we would scrap all (or most of) the rules and simply apply common sense. Frankly the "rules" listed on the server info download screen are really all the rules we need.

I lean towards agreeing with Harvey Dent here. :)

If anything, ^this is the biggest problem ALFA now finds itself lumbered with. When ALFA had many dozens of active members (and I mean active in-game, not just forum jockeys and admins) I expect rigid systems such as these solved more problems than they created; however, with far smaller numbers involved that equation no longer rings true. There is a reason that lawyers are first up against the wall come the revolution.

(Cue ear-splitting bleating from the usual suspects about how anarchy is the only alternative to bureaucratic totalitarianism.)

As strange a concept as this is for trying to maintain a community of RP'ers - Is there anyone preferably with a technical or legal background who would like to be part of "Team Lead Admin", in the capacity of "Charter Advisor"?

If anyone does not have enough headaches in their life and meets the above criteria, please apply.

I can do it. Our charter is a mess.

Leaving rule design to lawyers is often a Bad Idea,

as game theory usually is not a part of the curriculum for a law degree.

Anyway, if you have any questions, I'm quite willing to illuminate from an ALFA-historic and a psychological perspective.

I would note that game studies (being the study of interactions had in play and the mediums through which play is had) is totally distinct from game theory (being the study of how people make decisions, especially when presented with conflicting interests and uncertainty). I bet that most people here learned at least a little bit of game theory in school and that only a couple have learned anything about game studies in school.
