If we are going to introduce historical context regarding torture, we should probably mention that few serious interrogators consider it a good way to obtain reliable, reproducible intelligence. That is not to say the threat of it could not inspire cooperation, but once the pain starts the exercise becomes counterproductive.
Magical coercion is much more likely to get us what we want in this case.
