MASS EFFECT 2

Post by Electryc »

Mass Effect 2 is fun. The voice acting is terrific, the graphics etc. Story so far is stellar. If you played the first one and didnt like check out this review.

I started with my old character from ME1 instead of remaking him. You have an option early in the game of giving your old character a new look and profession as well.

Currently sits on 94 at metacritic, though the xbox 360 version is on 96.

Great game. The Tali romance was disappointing though.

Highly enjoyable but doesn't have that spark the first one did.

Pretty decent so far. The inventory system is a bit...meh. Feels designed entirely around the console, though i am thankful that i no longer need to constantly switch in ammo mods to hurt different types of creatures.

Pretty confortable to use in the 360, so you're likely right.

Sort of? You can change your guns... though I'm not so sure why you would, since the game always hands you the best of each kind by deafault. Although I did mess around with the heavy weapon choices.
On a side note, I liked the amor customization options now better than the whole 300 different useless ones from the first game.

finished it with my renegade Infiltrator, lvl 29 at the end 50 exp off 30 :( was really enjoyable, bioware always has a habit of making great stories. However I do feel we where slightly spoiled with the first ME and that the 2nd ME was somewhat lacking in comparison.

However being a middle game I guess you cant complain... its like the middle of the book :D

And me3 is looking to be quite the shit fight.

I beat the game with a Paragon Infiltrator just now. Took a bit over 32hours, with every side quest given out completed and some found from anomalies when scanning (I admit, I missed a couple of systems to see the ending). Only made it to level 24, since I played the original on the 360 and didn't have a save to convert over.

Overall, I enjoyed the game. I preferred the new style of game over the old style, at least the PC ME2 compared to the 360 ME1, and liked how aiming made more of a difference. I also enjoyed the crew a lot more, and found the mission-based style a lot easier to pick up and leave when on a rush or can only get "that one mission in" before leaving. The story wasn't as strong as ME1, but there were so many mind-boggling moments that they made up for it (especially at the end, where my jaw just dropped).
Spoiler:
The Tali romance was such a tease as well. I was really, really hoping to finally see the face behind the mask -- but just as it's popped off, c'est la vie, she overwhelms you with her Quarian love.
All in all, I can't wait for the finale.

edit: I'm also planning to replay it from the female perspective, renegade-style. Not too sure what I'll play as, but I'm leaning toward Vanguard. I'm going to steal a save from a website, so if anyone has any input as to how a save changes things... I'm all ears. Going from a new Shepard really shoe-horns you into having a specific ending from ME1:
Spoiler:
The Council is killed, Wrex dies, Kaiden dies, Udina takes over the human council.
I'd really like to know if it's a huge difference.

Minor spoilers I guess
Spoiler:
If you play as a female Shepard Ashley dies instead of Kaiden. As for saved games, it doesn't really affect the ending, but it imports your choices for Wrex and the council and it also imports your romance options. I know you can have Liara's picture in your cabin if you romanced her in ME1 (not sure about Ash or Kaiden) and you probably can pick up on that on the next game.
Restarting now as a renegade adept on insanity. It's a whole different game. I died more times in the first recruiting mission than in all of the first playthrough. Final boss was kinda cheesy, but overall I liked the ending.
Spoiler:
I was greatly surprised that you can get Shepard and all of your squad killed and leave Joker as the sole survivor. It was amusing.

Not mine, but found this one on youtube. Pretty amusing. Here's the link for the first out of 5.

It's a game ending video, so obvious spoilers.

I would suggest against vanguard, at least on higher difficulties. Charge just doesn't make it useful enough on hardcore and insanity. Better to just go biotic in my opinion and pick up warp ammo as your bonus talent.

As for the ending,
Spoiler:
I wish there was a middle path where you could keep the station intact and then turn it over to the Council or the Alliance instead of Cerberus. My paragon shep is pragmatic, no way he wants that kind of tech in cerberus hands after what they did with the rachni and thorian creepers and it blew up in their face, but he knows it could give them an edge, so it should go to the Council.
