Donate Blood, Support ALFA - WTF?
Whilst we are on the subject, can I also recommend signing up to the bone-marrow transplant register?
In the UK, that's the Antony Nolan Trust, who do excellent work in seeking out compatible donors for people who would otherwise die from leukemia or similar.

Germany needs YOUR blood for their next great warz.Alara wrote:Okay,
Course, you don't get money for full blood in Germany, but there are still many benefits. A regular and free blood analysis and health check-up. A lot of fun and joking about. Getting that warm fuzzy feeling knowing you've done something good, or as simple as having overcome your fear of the tiny sting.
Cheers,
Just kidding about that the part above.
I have a great respect for the people that do become organ donors (lets keep blood out of it for now). Unfotunately I personally become uncertain when it comes to the thought of my organs being around even when my mind is long gone.
I guess it all fucks with my mind - what happens with the organs?
Am I still partially alive? And why should I be spare parts for someone who smoked and drank for 40 years of his or her life?
In an instant I would sign a paper granting my family and my friends the complete rights to decide over my body once I'm gone (but that would make it too late for some hit and run needing organs in an instant). And I would also sign a paper granting them (my family) my organs should the need be (the odds being slim I guess)
Maybe I just can't except my own mortality.
But it is all for the best - I just need some help getting there...
Suck FIST, vile demon! Er, well you WILL be sucking fists as soon as i can get past all theese damn tentacles to something that does the sucking... Oh dear lord, THAT'S not a tentacle!
Thanks for this suggestion. I was one of the lucky ones who's sibblings matched. Being a donor to a bone marrow transplantee in most cases involves the donation of stem cells, not actuall bone marrow, so the donation process can be no more invasive than an IV.Mayhem wrote:Whilst we are on the subject, can I also recommend signing up to the bone-marrow transplant register?

I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.~~Groucho Marx
The blood donating for money for ALFA is still valid til january 1st, guys and gals... you afraid? Or noone wanting to part me from my euros? Or not wanting to feel like a benevolent benefactor around the fuzzy holiday time? Hm? HM?
C'mon, if the nurse is good you won't even feel the sting (and that's the only vaguely uncomfortable part about the whole thing)...

This is the single most intelligent thing to come out of the ALFA Off Topic forum pool. God speed thread, god speed.
