In the end the Palin candidacy is a symptom and expression of a new vulgarization in American politics. It's no good, not for conservatism and not for the country. And yes, it is a mark against John McCain, against his judgment and idealism.
I gather this week from conservative publications that those whose thoughts lead them to criticism in this area are to be shunned, and accused of the lowest motives. In one now-famous case, Christopher Buckley was shooed from the great magazine his father invented. In all this, the conservative intelligentsia are doing what they have done for five years. They bitterly attacked those who came to stand against the Bush administration. This was destructive. If they had stood for conservative principle and the full expression of views, instead of attempting to silence those who opposed mere party, their movement, and the party, would be in a better, and healthier, position.
At any rate, come and get me, copper.
Well, it was a good article Buckley, good enough for me to repost it, and the National Review sucks anyway.
"People in Europe have difficulties with a candidate like Sarah Palin, who resonates with part of the American population," Clark said. "Europeans don't get it."
What do you think EuroAlfans, is this true?

Nothing, as there's not even the slightest scrap of argument presented linking supposed effect to assumed cause.Mulu wrote:"People in Europe have difficulties with a candidate like Sarah Palin, who resonates with part of the American population," Clark said. "Europeans don't get it."

I think the statement was aimed at an american audience anyway, probably meant to prop her up, using basic group-psychology effects. Them dar other guys dun like yer gal none!
The power of concealment lies in revelation.
Actually it was made by some Euro reporter explaining polling results on the US election in various Euro countries.
Anyway, was that a "yes" or a "no?"

I'd have difficulties with any candidate who givesw every appearance of being picked to try to pick up the votes of a certain demographic rather than because of being able to genuinely bring anything useful to the Prez/Veep team.Mulu wrote:

A candidate that the prez barely knew and didn't vet, and (having belatedly been discovered to be hopeless) isn't allowed near the press without half-a-dozen handlers to make sure she doesn't say something stupid. Again.

I do remembering most muttering afterwards...aye...
Though of coarse it's good to polish and square away now and again and feel the sense of clean pride, from what I remember most thought it a waist of time when we had other things to do...like prep for missions, go out on patrols, go over recon with our immediates. Glad you get a feel good out of it...all I ever got was my mind racing to all the things that I could be doing at that particular moment...

I say I was a Dem?
Besides which, I was also known as a white devil during my stint. It wasn't an insult, more of a joke between us all. Got called cracker plenty of times in the service, and never once was it meant to offend. Get over it, man.

Colin Powell backs Barack Obama, citing as one reason that he believes Palin is not ready to be president.
But what does he know...he's just a liberal hack anyway. Isn't that right, that anyone who isn't on McCain's side has a liberal bias they can't rise above?
