Iranian naval forces in the Gulf tried to capture an Australian Navy boarding team but were vigorously repelled, the BBC has learned.

The incident took place before Iran successfully seized 15 British sailors and Marines in March.

[...]

The Australians, though, to quote one military source, "were having none of it".

The BBC has been told the Australians re-boarded the vessel they had just searched, aimed their machine guns at the approaching Iranians and warned them to back off, using what was said to be "highly colourful language".

The Iranians withdrew, and the Australians were reportedly lifted off the ship by one of their own helicopters.
So... Does this mean the Brits were just a pack of :kitty: :kitty: :kitty: ?

That's how sailors should conduct themselves. Go Australia!

I got the image of Steve Irwin in naval uniform pointing a gun at an Iranian and saying back off mate.

It was funny, but then I got sad.

Who'd want to capture a bunch of barbaric smelly simpletons? Not even Iran is that desperate.

Maybe the Iranians had second thoughts after seeing the Aussies up close in their Steve Irwin tight fitting shorts and were intimidated by all those tightly packaged hams :P

Or maybe we just didnt keel over and instead told them and their mates (the gunship apparently called in 4 other gunships nearby for assistance) to go and get fucked :D

Either way, its another 1up on the motherland :D

Likely in a worse position than the Australian troops were. From what i can gather, the Brits were back in their small intercept boat when they were captured. The Australians were just getting back into theirs when they noticed the Iranians, re boarded the vessel they had just inspected and took up defensive positions.

It sounds like the Aussies were in a much stronger position. The Iranians would have either had to sink the boat or try and board it, which would be pretty dangerous when you got a half a dozen guns trained on you.
