Songs of the Snow

Post by Ogregrim »

Herein are the songs of Tottespiel sung on the journey to the icy lands unknown.
It has been my experience that, given the opportunity, people will in the end do what they truly desired to do in the beginning. Save time, let them, then they have only themselves to blame or you to thank.

Everything Falls Apart

Post by Ogregrim »

We build and mold the world we know,
With all our might and art,
Yet when all seems to be just so,
Everything we put together falls apart.

We grasp and clutch, and swoon and sigh,
We cling with beating heart,
But all will fade, and all must die,
Everything we put together falls apart.

We plan our plans and dream our dreams,
Our end we strive to thwart,
But see more clearly in our dreams,
Everything we put together falls apart.

We hope to find a little joy,
Perhaps love is a start,
But all we love, we must destroy
Everything we put together falls apart.

Our lovers' lies we whisper warm,
They pierce us as a dart,
We try to smile in the face of harm,
Everything we put together falls apart.

Nothing from nothing, and nothing we are,
No wisdom have I to impart,
So shed no tear thy face to mar,
Everything we put together falls apart.
It has been my experience that, given the opportunity, people will in the end do what they truly desired to do in the beginning. Save time, let them, then they have only themselves to blame or you to thank.

Shoreline Lament

Post by Ogregrim »

Across the sea, my love has gone,
I'll not see her again,
What was bound has come undone,
And all joys have their end.

Words of love we often shared,
But all to no avail,
What pleading words to speak I dared,
Were but winds to fill her sails.

Departed now she makes her way,
To find her distant shore,
While on this beach alone I stay,
To see her nevermore.

Her coffin adrift, it rocks and sways,
To carry her to distant quays,
Along the river, or upon the sea,
It tempts the wrath of Umberlee.
It has been my experience that, given the opportunity, people will in the end do what they truly desired to do in the beginning. Save time, let them, then they have only themselves to blame or you to thank.

A Song to Lure a Snow-Lilly

Post by Ogregrim »

Gone and gone, and then returned,
And in her absence have I burned,
Lost and lonely, frail, dismayed,
Wondering why she had not stayed.

A flicker and a subtle glow,
It dances with her, where'er she'd go,
So sways the Lilly, to and fro,
And leads me whence I do not know.

The flame is warm in bitter cold,
It calls us though we dare not hold,
The dancing mem'ry bright and bold,
Of this face I e'er long to behold.

Return to me and know again,
The shared light laughter of a friend,
That tragic partings might now end,
And broken hearts might somehow mend.

*This song ends with a tremolo Bflat minor chord.
It has been my experience that, given the opportunity, people will in the end do what they truly desired to do in the beginning. Save time, let them, then they have only themselves to blame or you to thank.

To Wake the Wild Willow

Post by Ogregrim »

Awaken to me,
Oh my sleeping one,
Come and see the flame bright sun,
That sphere so bold and fiery,
As across blue vastness it doth run.

Lift up thy lids,
Unhood thine eyes,
Keep them not hid,
Nor their colour disguise,
But cast thy gaze where hearts would bid,
And this one that waits now recognize.
It has been my experience that, given the opportunity, people will in the end do what they truly desired to do in the beginning. Save time, let them, then they have only themselves to blame or you to thank.

For the Moon and She On Which It Shone

Post by Ogregrim »

The moon she is the gentle sun,
Who comes to smile when day is done,
And when she smiles, t'is clearly shown,
No heart need e'er be all alone.

And like the moon I saw her face,
Wild and lovely in a dolefull place,
And in its fierceness, beauty shone
The likes of which I've never known.

Howling Lady of the Snow,
She calls me on where she would go,
And follow I whence she will guide,
To see the world there at her side.

*smiles up to the moon*
Oh Lady, forgive any slight I have offered thee in my ignorance.
I never knew.
I never knew.
*weeps quietly*

Blanketed in the cold white locks of Mother Death,
Her chilly blue kiss doth steal our breath.
Come let us go,
Through the ice and snow,
To someplace warm,
With a fire's glow.
The drifts now rise so white and deep,
T'will be our deaths if here we sleep.
Let us not still our weary feet,
Till we have fire and welcome heat.

A Prayer for the Fallen Willow

Post by Ogregrim »

Do not go so swift from me!
Do not fade and depart!
For If you go you take with thee
What was left of my heart!

In this pale white I am alone,
All is bleak and bare,
There is no place that I would go,
If I would not find you there.

Maiden of the white cloak,
Chilly and cold,
Fierce and pristine,
These are your lands,
And we lost in them,
Cast down your favour,
On this fallen heroine.

A Song for Delaruleth in His Time of Turmoil

Post by Ogregrim »

You are not alone, Pale Friend,
Though all the world betray you,
A hand is there if you should fall,
And a shoulder here to stay you.

Do not depart in this cold place,
Forget you not bright laughter,
The past we never can erase,
We change only what comes after.

Quatrain On Learning Willow's Name

Snow and shadow intertwined,
Grace and beauty now defined,
Lovely to me beyond compare,
This one that they call Amyier.

Sonnet Of the Mangled Bard

Post by Ogregrim »

How can I be what I am not?
And yet would I not be that which I am,
Forsaking those of whom I am misbegot,
Though not as they, still with them damned.

Oh wretched form that once was fair,
Besmirched now by the jaws of Death,
That what small worth there was those jaws did spare,
For sake of love to still know breath.

Sweet respiration all undeserved,
That loving heart might throb and ache,
In one unworthy his love to serve,
His very birth his life's mistake.

Transposed now, in me, are the foul and fair,
What I was, I'll not be, for my Amyier.
It has been my experience that, given the opportunity, people will in the end do what they truly desired to do in the beginning. Save time, let them, then they have only themselves to blame or you to thank.
