Tottespiel's Game of Cards

Fate stacks the deck from which she deals,
And with every new card she reveals,
I am crushed beneath her wheel,
I try to stand, but find I kneel.
Sometimes I think it is a shame,
That I must play this losing game,
I lose my faith, my soul, my name,
and only have myself to blame.
But still the cards remain in play,
I throw a deuce, she trumps with trey,
Till all my cards are swept away,
I ought to leave but still I stay.
The king of Hearts, he slowly bleeds,
While the moon gently recedes,
Six broken blades lie in the weeds,
The Priestess slowly counts her beads.
A broken man, I face my cards,
With a face by fate now scarred,
But play again, and just as hard,
For Fate does love her tortured bard.
